North Wind were looking for a contemporary deck saloon of attractive proportions, and by starting with a generous beam, we positioned the cockpit coamings as far out as reasonably possible, and maximised external space by creating a truly expansive aft exterior lounge/cockpit, where a Mediterranean lifestyle can be fully appreciated. Designed symmetrically, the cockpit has two discreet steering positions adjoining the rear of the deck saloon which has eliminated the take-up of space normally reserved for a central wheel. A hydraulic ‘transformer’ platform serves either as a traditional passerelle, as fully adjustable boarding steps, a swim boarding ladder, a tender lift or equipment loading platform. In addition to the 5m long master cabin, one other fairly unusual characteristic for a yacht of this size is inclusion of three double guest cabins. The master benefits from twin bathrooms, private access to the transom and great views of the ocean, even from lying in bed! The guest cabins are pretty much the same physical size and, again, large windows means increased internal light. An all carbon, self-tacking cutter rig accentuates an ‘easy-to-handle’ mentality. And the hull effectively ‘wraps’ itself over the top of the bulwarks to create a smooth integration where hull meets deck. Inside the lounge and dining areas are connected on the same level without guests having to contend with steps as is so often the case. An internal steering position with small navigation table completes the picture. With a forty year heritage to fall back upon, we believe North Wind will soon be attracting customers once again.
