Introduction to Script Analysis ! -What is the purpose of drama? -What essential element must be present for a play to have dramatic action? -What are the three basic types of conflict found in western drama? -Aristotle's Six Elements of Dramatic Structure? Character -What are the four plains or levels of dramatic characterization? -What is a character's spine, or major objective? -What are the three dramatic techniques a playwright can use to reveal his characters to the audience? -Character Attributes -Desire- what a character wants -Will- how much a character will to do to get what they want. -Moral stance- what are a characters morals. -Decorum- how a character physically hold themselves -Character Hierarchy - Know that a: ! -Principal Character has a polar attitude and is primarily the character in the center of the action -Second level character has a fair number of lines, but, that the audience does not know as much about the character as a primary character. -Third level character has a limited number of lines and we as the audience do not know much about them. -Fourth level characters are best exemplified as the chorus in Greek drama or a narrator in a modern play. They are generally omniscient and know things that are not known by other characters or tells the audience events that will happen in the future.
