Your domain name is as important in
today’s digital world as your logo.
Everyone who enters your URL into their
browser should come to your website,
but what happens if a criminal has
registered a very similar version of your
domain in order to lure your customers
to a fake website?
NCC Group’s Domain Intelligence platform
enables you to monitor any domains that
are close to your own so you can take
action if they are registered by a
malicious third party.
Benefits of Domain Intelligence
•
Provides rapid detection of any new
registrations.
•
Stops similar domains being used as part of
phishing attacks against your business.
•
Helps you to act quickly to deploy
countermeasures against domain and typo
squatting.
•
Easily accessible portal to manage and
investigate your domains.
•
Optional access to further domain services
expertise from NCC Group to help you to
respond upon detecting domain misuse.
How it works
Domain abuse can take the form of:

New
detection
Client
alerted
This is where a cyber criminal uses cleverly crafted emails
claiming to be from your organisation to lead people to fake
websites, or to distribute malicious code.
The email will include a link for the user to click that will direct
them to a fake website that will be hosted on a domain similar
to your own or contain an attachment for the user to open.
Domain Intelligence
Domain Intelligence provides you with a portal which allows
you to log in and enter the domains you wish to monitor and
set up email alerts for any suspicious activity. The service runs
a number of algorithms to discover registered domains for
domain abuse.
What the portal provides
The portal provides you with achievable, effective and timely
outputs helping to minimise damage to your organisation’s
cyber security, revenue, reputation and customer relationships.
The portal includes:
•
•
Easy registrations of new domains to be monitored.
•
Daily email alerts flagging up any new registrations
detected.
•
Incident tracking and immediate viewable alerts.
Options to allow customisation of the algorithms
performance.
The domain will often include variations on the spelling of your
actual domain such as replacing ‘O’ with ‘0’, ‘I’ with ‘1’ or numbers such as ‘first’ with ‘1st’.
The recent introduction of new domain extensions provides
criminals with even more opportunity to fool recipients of
phishing scams into believing that the domain belongs to your
brand.
Domain or Typo Squatting
This is when a cyber criminal will register a domain name
similar to your own in order to catch unsuspecting visitors who
mistype an email address or website. Often these domains are
simply used to generate revenue through advertising, however,
in more malicious instances they may be used to collect email
addresses which are misaddressed.
