Curriculum updates
Poppy and Primrose Class will continue reading the poem ‘January’.
January sparkles.
January’s bold.
January huffs and puffs.
January’s cold.
Daisy Class and Year 3 are focusing on the poem ‘On the Ning Nang Nong’ by Spike Miligan.
On the Ning Nang Nong
Where the Cows go Bong!
and the monkeys all say BOO!
There's a Nong Nang Ning
Where the trees go Ping!
And the tea pots jibber jabber joo.
On the Nong Ning Nang
All the mice go Clang
And you just can't catch 'em when they do!
So its Ning Nang Nong
Cows go Bong!
Nong Nang Ning
Trees go ping
Nong Ning Nang
The mice go Clang
What a noisy place to belong
is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!!
Daffodil Class are focusing on the poem ‘Now we are six’ by A.A. Milne.
When I was one,
I had just begun.
When I was two,
I was nearly new.
When I was three,
I was hardly me.
When I was four,
I was not much more.
When I was five,
I was just alive.
But now I am six,
I'm as clever as clever.
So I think I'll be six
now and forever
Bluebell and Buttercup Class are focusing on the poem ’Snow Storm’ by Robert Patinson.
The land was white and freezing cold
the snow had come and taken hold.
A blizzard moved in from the north
and told the flurries to go forth.
A howling sound brings with it chills,
frozen words drift through the hills.
The trees wear coats of fluffy snow,
the land’s so bright it seems to glow.
Snowflakes drifted down from the sky
whipped by the wind in swirls they fly.
A light and freezing screen they form,
the blizzard grows into a storm.
Year 4 are focusing on the poem ‘The Crocodile’ by Lewis Caroll.
How doth the little crocodile
Improve his shining tail,
And pour the waters of the Nile
On every golden scale!
How cheerfully he seems to grin
How neatly spreads his claws,
And welcomes little fishes in,
With gently smiling jaws!
Woodpecker Hall’s reading focus this week will be History Books.
Mountfitchet - Norman Castle
Next week we will focus on Classic Literature
For Maths this week, Reception is learning about subtraction and writing subtraction sentences. You can
help at home by letting your child act out subtraction situations (“There are four shoes by the door. If we take
two away, how many are left?”) and helping them writing the corresponding subtraction “story” (4-2=2).
Year 1 will be focusing on the
5 times table in January
Year 2 will be focusing on their
3 times tables in January
Year 3 and 4 will be focusing on
their 8 times table

Click and collect from school. Order the uniform from www.smithsschoolwear.co.uk and collect
from school (once a week drop off to school)

Home Delivery. Please note there is a delivery charge on this option unless the order is more than
£50.
School no longer holds any uniform stock so all uniform orders will be direct with Smiths. There will
also be a ‘Pop-Up Shop’ open once or twice a year to sell uniform at the school. We will let you know
when these are coming up. Please see the letters home page of the website for full details. The school
makes no profit from selling uniform ourselves, and as we grow in size holding stock on site takes up
valuable school space that can be used for supporting learning instead.
Parent Teacher Association
We are currently looking for volunteers to be part of Woodpecker Hall’s PTA. Thank you if you have
already put your name forward.
We have many projects in mind such as our own mini-bus, an adventure playground, a geodesic dome for
our Zen garden and we’d like to use any money raised towards a fantastic school trip for our first ever
Year 6 class! There will be lots to keep any committed PTA member busy. Your ideas will always be
welcomed and all money raised will be used here at Woodpecker Hall for the benefit of your child/children.
If you are able to commit to one meeting per half term on school premises and be able to give some time
to fundraising and supporting activities within school hours please come in and speak to the office.
Advisory / Procedural Notices
Office Notice - Reminder that the school office is closed for general enquires everyday between 10am 2pm.

We hope you understand this is for the safety of your children and we appreciate your cooperation.
Lost Property – If you believe you may have anything in the lost property box please come and check.
th
We will be disposing of anything left over on Friday 15 January.
