International Exhibition for Animal Husbandry and Breeding 5-7 February 2013 All-Russian Exhibition Center, Moscow, Russia Info-Center “Energy-saving equipment for controlled animal housing climates” Background Since 2007 DLG and its Russian partner IEC of AREC in Moscow have been organizing AgroFarm – the Exhibition for Animal Husbandry and Breeding. With AgroFarm, DLG always aims not only to contribute its know-how as an exhibition organizer, but also to introduce its expertise as a specialist organization in the agricultural sector in order to thus create new magnetic attractions for expert visitors and offer exhibitors additional opportunities for presenting their specific competencies. These options include not only forum events, but also Information Centers. An “Information Center” is understood to be an exhibition area focusing in particular detail on one theme and presenting this to visitors in an attractive and practice-oriented fashion. These Information Centers offer visitors an impartial platform for gathering information about a particular topic and provide participating firms with an opportunity to present their products selectively to potential customers. The Information Centers are given a lot of media publicity in the run-up to the exhibition, in the press, the internet, exhibition catalogue, the guide etc. AgroFarm has meanwhile become established as the most important exhibition for Russian livestock farmers. It plays a major role in determining the strategic development of animal husbandry in Russia. This is where trends are identified and standards are set for the entire country. AgroFarm offers a comprehensive programme for the entire animal sector, oriented to the needs of Russian animal farmers. The exhibition areas cover all major animal species: cattle, pig and poultry husbandry as well as goat, sheep, rabbit and bee keeping. Alongside the species-specific exhibition programmes, AgroFarm also has cross-sectoral segments such as animal health and veterinary medicine, feed and feed additives, animal housing construction, processing, to mention just a few. AgroFarm is a meeting place for the whole of Russia’s animal sector. It attracts animal farmers from all over the country. At the last event in 2012 as many as 9365 expert visitors from 72 regions of the Russian Federation and 31 countries visited AgroFarm. The idea Alongside good and adequate diets, creating and maintaining an optimal housing climate are the determining factors for animal health, reproductive power and productivity. After feed, providing an optimal animal housing climate is the second highest cost factor in animal husbandry. In the face of climate change and soaring energy prices, energy-saving equipment is becoming significantly more important. The highest share of power consumption is accounted for by heating the housing facilities. The intensity of heating depends on the animal species, the age of the animals and the climate conditions. Good thermal insulation and ventilation with heat recovery are particularly important in this context. 1 Housing ventilation is also responsible for a large portion of total energy consumption. Good light conditions are extremely important for proper development of the animals, so that considerable power consumption by lighting equipment must be included in the calculations. The essential consumers of energy in animal housing The concept At the Info-Center “Energy-saving equipment for controlled animal housing climates” exhibitors can present their innovative products for solving possible animal housing climate problems and helping to cut power costs. Methods and products will be demonstrated with the aid of explanatory exhibits. The range of information should cover all major sectors of equipment and installations for animal housing climate control – heating, cooling, ventilation, heat recovery, moisture reduction, emission reduction, lighting etc. Interested visitors will be able to draw their own personal conclusions thanks to the practice-oriented presentation at the Information Center. It is generally recommended that products and exhibits be shown in hands-on style and demonstrated as far as this is technically feasible. The Information Center is being organized by DLG (Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft e.V. – German Agricultural Society) and IEC of AREC, Moscow. But the Information Center is a joint service of the exhibitors and the organizers of AgroFarm. There will also be close cooperation with research and educational institutions. The success will depend on practice-oriented presentation during the exhibition and intensive promotion of the Information Center by organizers and participating firms in the run up to the exhibition. The Information Center will be supplemented by an expert conference on the same topic. The combination of expert lectures at the conference and presentation of the products at the Information Center will link the theoretical bases and the practical solutions. Content The focal areas will be dealt with at the Information Center and companies can apply to show their exhibits in the specific matching segments.
