Roman Emperor “Fakebook” Project
Gratulationes! You have been hired to serve as a
campaign manager and create a “Fakebook”
page for one of the Roman emperors as he
takes part in an election to once again rule the
Roman Empire.
Just to be clear –
You do not need nor
should you go to
Facebook.com to do
this project
As you know, running for election is not something emperors are used to doing
and Facebook is a new idea for them. As his campaign manager, it is your job to present your emperor in the most positive
light possible so that he can earn a majority of votes from the citizens of the Roman Empire (both patricians and plebeians) –
for this exercise, your classmates! This is your one chance to influence voters, so you must include as much information as
you can to get the emperor’s name, image and main view points into the heads of the voters.
The basic requirements are that you accurately represent what was happening in their lives and the events that were taking
place during the time period. You can type it, handwrite it (think poster), or use the template on the computer. All three
methods will be accepted for full credit.

You need to meet the following requirements:
You will need to do some research, as your emperor is out somewhere on the Roman campaign trail and can’t be reached.
He has, however, left you with specifics about what he has in mind. The final product must contain the following elements:
• Name of your emperor in big, bold letters.
• A profile picture of your emperor. You may include pictures that portray the Roman Empire as well.
• A campaign slogan that highlights the emperor’s achievements, leadership style or personality. Try to make it catchy!
• You need to have at least 5 “conversations” between your emperor and his/her “friends” regarding their lives and
experiences from the research you found.
• You need “Historical” sections that reflect what was going on in the empire during their lifetime. This summary of the
history should take the entire middle column. This should be at least 10 sentences.
• At least 4 people your character would be “friends” with in the “Friends Online” section. Include a picture and name for
them. These could be other emperors or important figures from their life.
• Basic biographical info in the “Information” section. These can be bullet
points. They should draw attention to the emperor’s achievements,
leadership style, personality, skills, or other qualifications

• At least 3 important events that were taking place during the time period. They need to be in order of occurrence and need
to have a sentence or two of explanation and an explanation as to why it was important to the emperor. This should be
listed in the “Events” section.
• Your final product should be attractive and neat with spelling and grammar checked. Be creative and original.
• If you have time…Just for fun:
o At least 2 advertisements of products that people may have used during the time period. These should be in the
“Sponsored” section.
o At least 3 Facebook-style groups that your figure would belong to.
o Suggestions of 3 people [other than “Friends”] that your emperor might have something in common with and
would be in the Friends Suggestion area in “Suggestions.”
