Companies were encouraged to apply to the competition, and finalists were selected by the people. If a company received 100 social votes after they applied, it would move on to the next round. Although no companies were restricted from applying, only the ones operating within the capital markets space were allowed to become finalists. Finalists were nominated for various categories and have the chance to win multiple awards. pm $ $ DS 20 1 5 ECH AW T IN AR F FINTECH FINALISTS SELECTION PROCESS 4- 9 THINKING LIKE A TRADER IDEA GENERATION Why would I make this trade? When coming up with the categories for the Benzinga Fintech Awards, we looked at them as an actual trader or investor might — with the main purpose of breaking down how wealth is created in the capital markets. INVESTMENT VEHICLE What am I going to buy or sell to make this trade? First, there are many companies that help generate trading ideas and strategies through research, analysis, data or education. EXECUTION Once the idea is in place, there is a choice of many different investment vehicles, such as stocks, options, motifs, etc. How will I make this trade? Finally, companies whose core function is to help execute the trades — from broker dealers to clearing houses — come into the picture. GOAL: Creation of Wealth! IDEAS DRIVE EVERYTHING The majority of companies that applied to Benzinga Fintech Awards competition largely fell into “Idea Generation”. That is why we decided to only include capital market products and companies into the final round. After getting feedback from key influencers in the industry, we felt it was appropriate to create sub-categories in which to further assess the core competencies of the finalists.
