Rider Height VS Frame Size Chart For 2011 the Giant range continues to grow. With the inclusion of new models, new categories and the revision of some of our existing sizes, there's now even more scope for finding a style and size of Giant bike to suit a rider. The following size charts are to be used as a GUIDE ONLY when fitting a rider to a Giant bike. 1.52m 5’0” 1.57m 5’2” 1.62m 5’4” 1.67m 5’6” 1.72m 5’8” 1.83m 6’0” 1.77m 5’10” 1.93m 6’4” 1.88m 6’2” 2.03m 6’8” 1.98m 6’6” M How To read the rider Height Vs Frame Size Chart Measure rider's height Use Giant 'Rider Height vs. Frame Size Chart” (page 79) to select frame size Determine the bike model Does rider clearly fit one frame size? Glory Y N Perfect Fit*: Do the standard components on the bike suit the rider? Read ’Perfect Fit? The Dealers Role’ below. M ! ! S In general, the smaller frame size will be slightly lighter, stiffer (frame tubes are closer together) and more nimble. In general, the larger frame size will offer a slightly more compliant ride. However, there are so many variables that can affect Bike Fit, that it is simply not possible to achieve perfect fit for every rider 'out of the box'. When fitting riders to bikes, shops should consider not just the rider height, but also the proportion of the upper to lower body. Riders with proportionally shorter torsos may need the smaller frame size and vice versa. ! The type of riding should also be taken into consideration. For example with mountain bikes, the smaller frame size will offer more stand over clearance and may be preferable for more hard-core applications. For cross country riding, it may be preferable to steer the rider toward the larger frame size. Rider weight should also be considered. Heavier riders may need the larger frame size (especially with some of our full suspension bikes where suspension spring weights may be firmer on larger frame sizes). This can and often does involve changing stem length, handle bar width, crank length, suspension spring weight, saddle type etc. It can also involve 'steering' heavier customers, or customers who are 'hard' on gear, toward more robust models, sturdier wheel sets, stronger parts etc. Dealers should expect to have to undertake a certain amount of 'customisation' of bike components and should discuss and work out these details with the customer prior to purchase. When we spec each size for each model in our range, we take into consideration many Bike Fitting factors such as stem length, handlebar width, crank length and suspension spring weight. ! If the rider falls in the overlap region between 2 sizes, the following are just some of the factors that should be considered: In general, females will have proportionally shorter torsos, shorter reach and should be steered towards the smaller frame size.
