World’s lightest three-season sleeping bag
At Outdoor Friedrichshafen 2014 Danish outdoor company, Nordisk, introduces
Oscar, a three-season fibre sleeping bag that weighs just 500 grams. With this new
extremely light fibre sleeping bag outdoor adventurers can go ultralight without
compromising on the great features of a fibre bag such as fast drying, long lasting
and maintenance free.
Whether you are an extreme trekker, adventure racer, or a family enjoying life outdoors, packing weight is important. No one wants to carry more than necessary.
Low weight is a strong trend in the outdoor industry, where new innovative materials and inventive design is used to cut weight in the outdoor gear without compromising on functionality and comfort.
Three seasons = 500 grams
At Outdoor Friedrichshafen Danish outdoor company, Nordisk, presents the sleeping
bag Oscar. Weighing less than 500 grams and with a temperature span from -6 to
+10°C Oscar is engineered to be the worlds lightest three-season synthetic sleeping
bag in its category.
One of the secrets behind the low weight is a new ultra fine 7-denier material
manufactured with a very low weight, yet with rip stop construction and a soft feel.
Oscar also has a new weight-optimised placement of the filling. The front of the bag
has two layers of fibre filling, and the back has only one, as the back of the body is
already insulated by the mat. The area around the feet has three layers of filling, as
the feet are the first parts of the body to get cold.
From soda bottle to sleeping bag
The filling is ThermoDry ECO, which is made from recycled PET. It makes good sense
to choose nature friendly products, when sleeping out in nature. But apart from
that, fibre filing made from recycled soda bottles has a hollow construction, making the filling airy and light, and stagnant air is one of the best insulation materials.
ThermoDry ECO is a high quality fibre that maintains its insulating features through
years of use and years of wash. Oscar is designed without cold spots from seams.
Innovative design reduces weight
Oscar has a new innovative design that is weight-optimised as well. The light-weight
zipper is shortened to the optimal length to reduce weight, and with a two way
function it still ensures great ventilation. The hood also provides convenient ventilation as it is easily opened or closed with an inside operated draw cord.
Oscar comes in two colour combinations: Mustard yellow/black and black/black. As
all other products from Nordisk, Oscar is REACH compliant, in order to minimise the
use of dangerous chemicals.
