Mount Pleasant turns purple and offers a ‘hand’ to help
Mackay’s ‘Relay for Life’
Mount Pleasant Shopping Centre is asking the community to lend a ‘hand’ and support the Cancer Council and
Mackay’s ‘Relay for Life’.
From Thursday 7 April to Saturday 9 April, shoppers will be able to provide their painted handprint, which will be
placed on Mount Pleasant’s ‘Hands for Hope’ wall.
Customers can purchase a tile for $5, and paint their name and handprint in either purple or yellow – the colours of
‘Relay for Life’. The tiles will be displayed on a public wall inside Mount Pleasant for a year. All proceeds will be
donated to Mackay’s ‘Relay for Life’ and the Cancer Council.
As part of raising community awareness, retailers will show their support on Friday 8 April with ‘Purple Power Day’.
Shops inside Mount Pleasant will be transformed with the ‘Relay for Life’ purple theme. All stores will have collection
tins.
Sarah Debono, Mount Pleasant Marketing Manager, said: “Mount Pleasant has always been a great supporter of
‘Relay for Life’. Our ‘Hands of Hope’ wall will feature handprints from members of the Mackay community, and will
be a reminder of how we come together to help those in difficult times. Thank-you also to local businesses, National
Tiles for donating 400 white tiles, and Porter’s Paints for their support.”
There will also be a ‘Relay for Life’ team set up in the centre for donations, as well as face painting and balloon
entertainment for children.
