RFP-17-KG-0215 Internal Connections:
Amendment 02: Clarifications to Questions
1. Finding major differences in the scaling provided on prints vs. a more realistic scale derived from
Google Earth/Maps. For example, Air Academy HS. Shows a scaling of 82’ on the 1st floor print. Google
Earth/Maps puts this same measurement at closer to 142’ (and is likely more realistic). This is a major
difference in quoting cable lengths/labor to pull cable. What measurement would ASD20 like us to use?
Answer: Due to an error in scaling, do not rely on the accuracy of the scale provided. In bidding
the wiring use the most accurate scaling available. This may have been obtained during the
walkthrough or can be calculated using tools like Google Earth.
2. Sorry to bug you, but the RFP still needs some clarification in order for vendors to respond correctly.
(I’m getting asked by multiple Aruba HPE Partners for help)
a. There is no per school break out of switches in the RFP or the exhibits. The RFP and the
Amendment keeps referring to a section in the RFP with this info, but the info for per school
breakout of networking equipment is NOT listed. The RFP also states “Exhibit 1-10 identifies
the quantities required per site”, but when looking at the exhibits, there is no breakout of
switching equipment required in these exhibits. Can you guys please re-read that section of
the RFP and tell us where the per school breakout for networking equipment is listed? The
only numbers in the exhibits 1-10 are “total drops” and “required patchcords”. That doesn’t
help with switch counts, SPF+ transceivers, or DAC cable counts.
Or is this really all you want quoted and forgo the “per school breakout” as specified in the
RFP?
10 Routing Switch
31 IDF Top of Rack
92 IDF 48 ports
37 DF 24 ports
b. How does AD20 anticipate the 2530’s to be interconnected in the closets? 1 gig copper,
10Gig DAC, SFP+, etc? The addendum says stacking and DAC cables are not required but
you require 10Gig connections between switches, so if you’re not going to use stacking or
DAC cables, what is your vision for how these switches will interconnect with each other
and/or the TOR switch?
c.
Top of Rack switches – the RFP calls for 2540’s for TOR to “distribute 10Gig fiber to other
switches in the rack and to 10Gig to MDF”, however there are only 4 SFP+ ports in the 2540,
and there is no per school breakout of switches per IDF in order to determine the number of
DAC/Fiber/Fiber connections.
Answer: Because the RFP was written such that vendors could respond to parts of the RFP or all
of it and the wiring portion would drive the port counts in each specific closet, we tried to leave
some flexibility. We fully anticipate that the final network requirements will evolve after award and
wiring. Please respond as indicated below.
1) If you are responding to both the wiring and the wired infrastructure portions of the RFP,
base your switch (port) counts on the MDFs and IDFs that you have proposed in your
wiring bid. Bid the appropriate uplinks (SFPs, DACs, …) to ensure that all switch
interconnections are 10 Gbps and that the router has 2 40 Gbps single mode interfaces
available to connect site-to-site. Alternatively, you can bid exactly as those vendors who
are bidding only network equipment, see below.
2) If you are not responding to the wiring portion of the RFP please bid the equipment as
outlined in the original RFP and modified by Amendment 1. Most specifically the two
sections quoted below:

b. For transceiver RFP 17-KG-0215 Internal Connections Amendment 01 Page 4 of 7
counts please include 2 40Gbps single mode transceivers and 4 10Gbps
multimode transceivers in the cost of each of the 10 Routing Switches and 1 10
Gbps multimode transceiver for each of the 31 TOR switches
3. Can you please clarify the installation services needed for the Network switches from a vendor that is
not doing wiring? The RFP document on page 20 states: “Pricing for installation must be all inclusive to
the technical requirements above”. In the Q and A document, question 7 asks about installation. The
response is: “Other than the wiring contract and the incorporated hanging of access points, installation
is not part of this RFP.”
Answer: “Installation of network switches is not part of this RFP”
