School Library Suggested Reading List
KEY STAGE 3
The School Library offers the following list of new and familiar authors, as a guide to pupils,
parents and carers. It includes reading suggestions for boys making the transition from
Primary into Secondary education and to the end of Key stage 3.
There is a wide range of type and subject matter, with boys being encouraged to begin by
reading what appeals to them most, and then progressing to less familiar territory and
continuing their reader development. It is important to remember that each individual should
have the freedom to develop their reading at a comfortable pace for them.
Reading is an individual and personal experience, and the most important thing is to enjoy
it!

All BBC Magazines are packed full of interesting facts and information in an
accessible format.
Please note that many authors now have official websites that can add an additional
dimension to the reading experience. Allowing the reader to explore characters in
more depth, learn about the latest publication launches and enter competitions with
parental approval. It is also worth dipping into the numerous book related websites
as most now include a child- friendly section.
The Public Libraries and Reading Agency also run an annual Reading Summer
Challenge. This year the theme is “Record Breakers”.
