Simple black cat throw Free Supplies SUPPLIES & TOOLS: • 1½ yd purple interlock knit fabric • 1½ yd black swirl faux fur fabric • 12”x18” Fuse-n-Tear tear-away embroidery stabilizer • 8”x14” Sulky Solvy® water-soluble stabilizer • Sharpie® fine-point marker • 2”x5” scraps of black and green cotton fabric for eyes • 2”x2” scrap of brown cotton fabric for nose • 3”x9” Wonder-Under™ fusible web • Rayon embroidery thread: gray, brown, black, white • Sewing machine • Basic sewing supplies • Iron, pressing cloth & pressing surface DIRECTIONS: 1.Trace the cat face design on the Solvy® stabilizer with the marker. 2.Trace the inner black eye portion, the whole green eye and the nose on Wonder-Under™ fusible web. Press the Wonder-Under™ on the back of the appropriate fabric pieces, cut out and peel off the paper backing. 3.On the back bottom left corner of the swirl fabric, apply the Fuse-n-Tear following package directions. 4.On the front side, pin the Solvy® in place over the section with the Fuse-n-Tear. 5.Set the sewing machine to a medium width satin stich. Using gray thread, stitch, following the whisker lines and tapering at the ends. Go over the stitched area again with the width slightly wider to give a bolder look to the whiskers. 6.Fold back the top of the Solvy® so the eyes can be placed on the face area using the traced design on the Solvy® as a placement guide. With the Solvy® out of the way, place the press cloth on top and fuse the fabric pieces in place. Satin stitch around the inner and outer eye with black thread and the nose and mouth lines with brown. Sew a second satin stitch layer as before. Sew a white satin stitch spot on each eye. 7.Tear off the stabilizers. more projects, tips & techniques at Joann.com ® skill level 3 8.Trim swirl fabric and interlock knit to the same size. Place them right sides together, pin and stitch all around with a ½” seam allowance leaving an opening. Turn the throw right side out and hand stitch opening closed.
