NexTourists have been inquiring about our
next American river cruise, and we’re happy
to satisfy that request. The American Duchess
is currently being refurbished and joins the
American Steamboat Company’s fleet next
June. She is the first all-suite paddlewheeler
cruising US rivers, a floating masterpiece that
will carry 166 guests through America's
heartland in the largest accommodations in
every cabin category on the river.
The American Duchess, created from a 1995
hull, is being reconstructed into one of the
most luxurious river cruising vessels in the
country, featuring single-seating main dining
and entertainment venues, soaring ceilings,
and all of the features guests have come to
expect on other American Queen Steamboat
Company cruises. An alternative more casual
dining option is offered at The Grill, which can
host 80 guests.
Although the American Duchess is not an
all-inclusive ship, shore excursions are complimentary. You’ll explore Dubuque, Hannibal,
and the Quad Cities with selected admissions
and narrated tours on a dedicated fleet of
Hop-On Hop-Off motorcoaches. Information
on Premium Shore Excursions (extra cost) will
be available closer to sailing. Also included in
your fare are wine and beer with dinner (a
beverage package with unlimited wine, beer
and spirits will be available for purchase);
coffee, water and pop anytime; evening
entertainment; daily lectures by the Riverlorian,
a resident history and culture expert; and
24-hour room service.
This sailing is a themed cruise: Mark Twain, An
American Literary Icon. Ship programming
will delve deep into the life and works of
Mark Twain while traveling "his" Mississippi
River. You will also explore his hometown of
Hannibal, MO, and visit the sites that inspired
his most cherished works. Hannibal was a

popular stop for steamboats traveling the
Mississippi. Today the most popular draw of
this quirky town is Hannibal’s favorite son,
Samuel Langhorne Clemens, recognized
world-wide as Mark Twain. Many of the
characters and influences of this American icon
are woven into the streets, shops, restaurants,
and museums of Hannibal.
We will add $430 for roundtrip main cabin air from
Detroit to the above cost unless you tell us you wish
to make your own air arrangements at time of
reservation. NexTour air tickets on Delta domestic
flights cannot be upgraded to a higher class of service.
Deposit: $1,455 (air cost will be added to final invoice)
Cancellation: No refund after 4/17/17
If you haven’t been to Minneapolis in a while,
here’s your opportunity to see what’s new in
the city. We’ll land in late morning on July
23rd and go right to the hotel. That afternoon
there’s a Tigers/Twins game at nearby Target
Field; the Guthrie Theater is hosting Sunday in
the Park with George; the Mall of America is
accessible by cab or public transportation.
You’ll stay overnight in downtown Minneapolis
and may tour on your own or buy a ship shore
excursion until mid-afternoon July 24th when we
take a coach to Red Wing, MN for embarkation.
