“We are soaring to greater heights with high expectations and excellence!”
July 1, 2016
Dear Harrison Families,
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer vacation. I am thrilled to be back at Harrison as principal for a
new learning year. I want to express my appreciation for your continued support. Harrison is truly a special
school and I appreciate the opportunity to work with your children. Even though there will be a few new
faces joining our staff family, Harrison is very fortunate to have an amazing, dedicated staff who gives 100%
to our students. The staff and I are looking forward to another great year of hard work together helping every
child achieve their personal and academic potential by providing your children with a learning environment
that is both rigorous and engaging. As a school, our mission is to ensure that all children build a strong
academic foundation, become life-long learners, and grow in self-confidence and compassion through a
challenging curriculum which nurtures each student’s abilities and aspirations in partnership with parents,
family, and community. Harrison’s number one focus is to increase student achievement. Our expectations
and goals for all students are high, and together as a team we will work to help all students achieve their
goals.
Over the summer, teachers have attended a variety of curriculum trainings as well as trainings to address the
emotional and social needs of our students. Everyone is energized and excited about the upcoming school
year with our number one focus being student achievement! However, we cannot do this without your
support and involvement. For our students to receive the best educational opportunities possible, our
staff and families must work as a team. As you prepare for the new school year, please plan to take time
to get to know your child’s teachers and be involved in school activities. These relationships provide great
support for your child and reinforce the importance of school. Do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher
if you have any questions or concerns. Open dialogue is very important as we work as a team with a
common goal in mind: student success! Parents are also encouraged to get involved at Harrison. One of
our primary goals is to establish a Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). Our first meeting will be held the
first day of school, Wednesday, August 17th as we host our 1st BooHoo/ YaHoo Breakfast. Please
plan to attend the BooHoo/YaHoo Breakfast immediately following drop off on the first day of school in the
AVID room. All parents are invited to join us for a time of lighthearted fun. Get to know other parents and
share the moment of sending your kids off to school for the first day whether it is to Boo-Hoo (tears) or to
Yahoo (cheers)! We will share with you ways you can become involved. We'll supply the tissues and food!
