THE 2015 ‘ALEX’S IMPORT’ GOLD CUP DAY
Distinguished Guests, Media Representatives, Representatives from the Alex’s
Imports Ltd, Caymanas Track Limited; also representatives from the Trainers,
Jockeys and Grooms Associations, good morning and welcome to the press
conference to launch the 44th running of the Grade I Gold Cup sponsored by
Alex’s Imports Ltd slated for Saturday, October 17, 2015.
The Gold Cup (Gr.I) is the most important and prestigious handicap race on the
racing calendar as it brings together the best sprinters and the best stayers over
1400M, which is just a little long for a sprinter and a little short for a horse that
prefers more real estate.
This year the ALEX’S IMPORTS GOLD CUP (GR.I) boasts a purse of $1.6M
(inclusive of $400,000 from the sponsor Alex’s Imports Ltd). The ALEX’S
IMPORTS GOLD CUP will be extremely competitive as it promises to bring the
reigning Horse-of-the-year TYPEWRITER (owned by Robert & W.P Valentine Chung
and trained by Spencer Chung), the 2015 Gold Cup star and Champion sprinter
POTCHEEN (owned by Curragh Jamaica Agency and trained by Harry Parsard), the
2015 None-Such Sprint winner UPPATUNE (owned by PJK Team and trained by
Harry Parsard), the 2015 Governor General’s Stakes and Prime Minister’s Stakes
winner PERFECT NEIGHBOUR (owned by Alfred Lee and Jeffrey Mordecai and
trained by Wayne DaCosta O.D.) in what will be a race filled with speed, intrigue
and excitement as the horses rush to the wire.
