4.0Analysis And Interpretation Of The Data
In this chapter, the analysis of the data of
two hundred chess and non chess players of
Hyderabad has been analysed. For this study 200 samples were selected from Hyderabad. Among
them 100 are chess players and 100 non-chess players (Volleyball and Handball) among them
50 male and 50 female players. First type of players and gender was influenced by general
mental ability were examined in the study. Means and standard deviations obtained by the four
classified groups on the measure of general mental ability are given in table 1. The four
classified groups were the same, which were classified on the basis of two independent variables
namely by types of players and Gender.

The above Table-1 and figure showing the Mean on Mental ability of Chess Male
Players was 81.48 and Chess Female Players is 68.14 compared to Mean Mental ability
of Non Chess Male Players is 79.52 and Non Chess female Players is 57.98. This shows
that the Chess Players are having good mental ability where compared to non chess
players.
The Table-1 and figure showing the Standard Deviation Mental ability of Chess Male
Players is 3.84 and Chess Female Players is 2.38 compare to Standard Deviation Mental

From Table -2 it is evident that the calculated F-ratio was highly significant in respect of
General Mental ability among Chess Players and Non Chess Players at 0.05 level of
confidence.
It is also seen that Male and Female Chess Players differs when compare to Male and
Female Non Chess Players, which refers to the factor gender. It was varied at two levels
i.e. male players and female players. Mean of male Chess players is 81.48 and female
chess players is 68.14 and Mean of male non chess players is 79.52 and female non chess
players is 57.98. Hence Male and Female Chess Players are having significant difference
in general mental ability compared to Non Male and Female Chess Players.

Chess Female Players is 19.32 compare to Mean values of Self Confidence of Non Chess
Male Players mental ability of 22.64 and Non Chess female Players of 16.3. This
indicates that Chess Players are having good Self Confidence compared to Non Chess
Players.

Table 3 shows that the calculated value of two way anova (f-ratio) was highly significant in
respect of self confidence among male chess players and female chess players.
The Table no. 4, it is seen that main effect A is highly significant main effect A refers to the
factor Types of players. It was varied at two levels i.e. chess players and non-chess players.
Since the main effect A is highly significant F (1,196) = 1057.74, p < .01.
Null hypothesis has rejected as there was significant differences on self confidence and Mental
ability among Male chess Players and Female Chess Players.
From the summary and table no.4, it is seen that main effect B is highly significant main effect A
refers to the factor gender. It was varied at two levels i.e. male players and female players. Mean
of male players was 24.12 and female players mean was 17.81 Since the main effect A is highly
significant F (1,196) = 237.5, p < .01.

4.1 Testing of Hypotheses:
1.It was hypothesized that there is a significant difference among Chess Players and Non Chess
Players. The chess players are having high Mental ability compare to non Chess Players. This
hypothesis of the study is accepted since the conclusions clearly brings out the difference among
Chess players and non chess players in Mental ability.
2.It was hypothesized that there is a s significant difference between Male players and Female
players dimension on general mental ability among Chess Players and Non Chess Players. This
Hypothesis of the study is accepted since the conclusions clearly brings out the difference among
Male Chess Players and Female Non Chess Players.
3.It was hypothesized that there is a significant difference among Chess Players and Non Chess
Players in self confidence. The chess players are having high Self Confidence compare to non
Chess Players. This hypothesis of the study is accepted since the conclusions clearly brings out
the difference among Chess players and non chess players in self confidence.
4. It was hypothesized that there is a s significant difference between Male players and Female
players dimension in self confidence
among Chess Players and Non Chess Players. This
Hypothesis of the study is accepted since the conclusions clearly brings out the difference among
Male Chess Players and Female Non Chess Players in self confidence.
