DDLM Vendor Guidelines 2015 - Dia de los Muertos Corpus Christi

HECHO A MANO ARTS & CRAFTS EXPO INFORMATION
2015 DIA DE LOS MUERTOS FESTIVAL- Oct. 31, 3pm to midnight
APPLICATION DEADLINE - AUGUST 1, 2015
The Corpus Christi Dia de los Muertos Festival (est. 2008) is listed as one of the Top 10 Dia de los
Muertos celebrations in the US by MSN. In 2014, our crowd estimate was 60,000-70,000. Many
of our vendors sell out.
Our Hecho-A-Mano Art Expo is a juried arts & crafts fair. “Juried” means that a panel of arts
professionals will review, score and select vendors from the applications submitted online. The Dia
de los Muertos Festival is juried for these reasons: 1) to ensure that our Art Expo is high in quality
and variety, 2) to ensure that products conform to our Made by Hand guidelines, and 3)
because we receive more applications than the number of booth spaces that are available.

WE ARE AN ARTS FESTIVAL AND WE BELIEVE STRONGLY IN THE CREATION OF
ORIGINAL WORKS. THE DIA DE LOS MUERTOS ART EXPO REQUIRES ARTS &
CRAFTS PRODUCTS TO BE MADE-BY-HAND AS DEFINED BELOW
HECHO-A-MANO / MADE-BY-HAND DEFINED: visual arts and crafts of original
conception and design, primarily made by the hand of the artist and Not intended for mass
production. Acceptable Items are defined below:
▪
Reproductions: inkjet or laser prints, offset lithographs/posters, high quality
copies. Artists may sell reproductions of their own original works, but, they must be
clearly marked with the word "reproduction." ▪
Limited Edition items that include reproductions of your original artwork are
acceptable; however, these items can constitute no more than 30% of your booth
products. Examples: cards, ornaments, mouse-pads, pendants, t-shirts, items
printed through Zazzle, CafePress or similar printers.
▪
Jewelry: Handmade beads, pendants and original designs in metal, ceramic, resin,
polymer clays, etc. qualify as hand-made. The number of spots available for jewelry
makers who string manufactured, mass-produced beads & findings
is limited. Unusual, original designs are more likely to be accepted to the festival.
▪
Hand-Embellished Items: we accept recycled or purchased items that have
been hand-embellished. Hand-Embellished is defined as painted, decorated,
collaged, beaded, carved, or otherwise re-designed on the surface. Items must
differ significantly from the original and show marked evidence of the artist's
hand. Examples include, but are not limited to: decorated wine bottles, decorated
boxes, re-decorated ceramic figurines, hand-painted glasses & dishes, mosaics,
appliqued/beaded/embroidered/painted fabric items like canvas totes, aprons,
pillows, shoes, etc.
▪
Silkscreen OR Hand-Printed T-Shirt Vendors: designs must be originally
conceived and designed by the exhibiting artist. If you plan to sell t-shirts along with
other items, you must include images of the t-shirt designs in your application. Only
limited editions of 100 or fewer are allowed.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT:
o Items that are imported, pre-purchased or mass produced
o Mass-produced buy-and-sell T-Shirts

o Items with the following text are NOT accepted: "Dia de los Muertos
Festival," "Dia de los Muertos Street Fest/Festival," or "Dia de los Muertos
Corpus Christi."
ART EXPO COMMITTEE:
Even though you are accepted into the show, the ARTS EXPO COMMITTEE will have full
authority to disallow any exhibit that he/she feels has been mass-produced or prepurchased from a professional dealer or other source. (If your items are questionable, you
may be asked to demonstrate how you have made the items during the show for all
shoppers to view).
Please understand that we try very hard to keep out wholesale products to make the
shows fair and of high quality. Please do not be offended if we ask you for further
documentation to validate your hard work.
Arts Expo Committee: Representatives of K Space Contemporary & Axis Tattoo will visit
booths multiple times to review art pieces, crafts and set-up during festival hours. They will
have copies of your application to compare what you submitted to what you have in your
booth. The committee will require vendors to remove any articles that are not in
compliance with criteria set forth in these guidelines and items that were not included in
your original application. Vendors discovered selling buy-and-sell items or putting things
back out after they have been asked to remove them will not be allowed to return as a
vendor in future years.
ARTS & CRAFTS EXPO - VENDOR INFORMATION
1. Hecho a Mano Art Expo: items in your booth must conform to “Hecho-aMano/Made-by-Hand” Guidelines above.
2. Exhibit spaces are 10’x10’ or 12' x 8'. BRING YOUR OWN: tables, chairs, display

block light as night falls. Staking into the pavement is not permitted. Vendors may
reserve 1 or 2 spaces.
3. The artist/crafter who made the products is expected to be present during the

sell your work in lieu of your presence. A Hospitality Area will be available where
vendors can get refreshments and take a restroom break in a timely manner.
4. Lighting: Electricity will be provided at an extra cost for a limited number of
booths. For those who do not elect to pay for electricity, lighting will be provided
by tower lights; vendors may provide their own additional lighting with batteryoperated lights. Vendors are NOT allowed to plug into the tower lights. Candles, gas
lanterns or other fire-based lighting and loud, noisy generators are NOT permitted.

6. Location: Booth location is assigned. It is determined by the items you are
selling. When possible, returning artists are placed in the same general area as the

customers via social media, emails, and by picking up fliers from K Space to hand
out to friends and customers. Fliers are available about 3 weeks before the event.
8. Set up time: 11 am to 2 pm. Event begins at 3:00 pm. Details and schedule for
setup will be posted on this website and emailed to vendors 2 weeks before the
event. Due to limited access to festival grounds, vendors are scheduled for setup at
specific times and given 15 minutes to unload. Vendors must arrive on time. Those
arriving late will not be allowed to drive into or park inside festival grounds.
9. Booth Breakdown begins at 11:00 pm. Due to the crowd, it is almost
impossible to breakdown and leave before the festival ends at midnight. Cars are
not permitted on festival grounds until streets are clear.
10. CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF!!! Vendors are provided with a trash bag - use
it. Our trash team will pick it up at the end of the night. Leave your space cleaner
than you found it. Vendors who leave chairs, tables, boxes, food, bottles, and other
trash behind will be banned from future participation.
11. Parking: Furman Parking Garage on Mesquite St. inside festival grounds is
available for parking. HOWEVER, you will not be able to leave the parking garage
until the festival has ended and streets have cleared after midnight. If you anticipate
leaving before midnight, do not park in the Furman Garage. Other parking
alternatives include Park & Ride and street parking.
12. Costume! Everyone is encouraged to dress up in the spirit of Dia de los Muertos!
