Bienvenido a todos, We are so thrilled to offer the beautiful language of Spanish at Venice Christian. Below you will find a syllabus for grades Kindergarten – High School. Also an outline of how the class is conducted and a supply list. The Spanish language is the 2nd most spoken language in America and our goal is to prepare and equip our students with a strong foundation of the Spanish Language. Elementary Spanish Kindergarten through 5th grade meets once a week Each class starts with prayer in Spanish and then we go over “Conversational Spanish”. This is when the student learns greetings, goodbyes and common phrases like “How are you?” “What’s your name?” etc. The class period then continues with “Vocabulary Time”, which is an interactive program of drawing, writing and repeating of the vocabulary words. Vocabulary Time is organized by themes. We dedicate several weeks out of the year working on themes and Spanish songs. Vocabulary Time past themes have been: Seasons Shapes Parts of the face Parts of the body Family members Animals Buildings (house, school, church, store, etc) Transportation (cars, trucks, bicycles, trains, planes, etc) Sports Holidays Colors, Spanish alphabet, numbers (annual review) Items needed: Composition book Coloring pencils or crayons *Spanish/English dictionary *5th graders only Intro Spanish, Spanish I, Spanish II & *Spanish III: *Spanish III - Elective offered depending on class size/interest Daily items needed: Spanish text book (covered) Spanish/English dictionary Composition book 3 prong folder with pockets VCS agenda book paper, regular pens, red pens, Spanish protocol: Agenda: ALL class work, new concepts, review work, done that day are written daily in the agenda (including upcoming quizzes). Homework: Mrs. Gadomski generally does NOT give out homework. If a student does have homework it is usually class work that was not completed, therefore it becomes homework. That class work is usually 75 % complete and the student knows what to do and how to do it, but did not complete it during the allotted time. That class work is listed in the agenda and circled. The circle is the reminder that it was not completed and needs to be finished at home and returned the next school day. Missing work policy: If a student has an excused absence, upon returning to class they have 3 school days to make it up. It is the students’ responsibility to connect with another student for homework, notes and quiz dates. They are to then go to a 2nd student (and if necessary even a 3rd student) to make sure the information is correct. Once they have followed the above procedures, if they have any questions they may come to Mrs. Gadomski for assistance. Spanish Quizzes: Approximately every two weeks we have a Spanish Quiz...generally the quiz is on the vocabulary of the current chapter and any added grammar or instructional material from that chapter, including notes in their composition books. 6th grade Introduction to Spanish One semester for 6th graders One Semester: Spanish alphabet Numbers 0 - 100 Colors Pronouns Basic Vocabulary (Family, Friends, School, etc) Interrogative words Sentence Structure Singular and Plural Masculine and Feminine Nouns and Adjectives Conversational Spanish 7th grade Introduction to Spanish One semester for 7th graders One Semester: Spanish alphabet Numbers 0 - 100 Colors Pronouns Basic Vocabulary (Family, Friends, School, etc) Interrogative words Sentence Structure Singular and Plural Masculine and Feminine Nouns and Adjectives Conversational Spanish 8th grade Introduction to Spanish One semester for 8th graders One Semester: Spanish alphabet Numbers 0 - 100 Colors Pronouns Basic Vocabulary (Family, Friends, School, etc) Interrogative words Sentence Structure Singular and Plural Masculine and Feminine Nouns and Adjectives Conversational Spanish SPANISH I First Semester: Spanish alphabet Numbers 0 - 100 Colors Pronouns Basic Vocabulary (Family, Friends, School, etc) Interrogative words Sentence Structure Singular and Plural Conversational Spanish Second Semester: Telling Time Irregular Verbs Verbs "Ser" & Estar" Verbs in their Infinitive forms ( Ar, Er, Ir, ) and how to conjugate them Verbs in Present Tense Form Masculine and Feminine Nouns and Adjectives Definite and Indefinite articles Building on our Vocabulary (Sports, Travel, Weather) SPANISH 2 First Semester: Review of Spanish I Verbs in their Present Tense Form Numbers Colors "Ser" vs "Estar" Conversational Spanish Interrogative Words Telling Time Definite and Indefinite Articles Vocabulary Irregular Verbs Second Semester: Past Tense, Preterit Tense, Future Tense Verb Stem changes Por vs Para Affirmative and Negative Commands Gerunds Direct and Indirect Objects Pronouns Double Object Pronouns
