What is the hardest part of resisting temptation for you?
Where have you been tempted recently and what was your response?
Watch Jackie Hill Perry's testimony on temptation (https://goo.gl/56CWwG). "I try to work hard to love Jesus
more [than my sin]." How does Jesus Christ fulfill the deepest longings and desires of your heart? How do the
sins that tempt you ‘fulfill' those longings? What are the outcomes of finding your satisfaction in
Christ? Compare them with the outcomes of giving in to temptation.
Read James 1:13. Your Heavenly Father does not tempt you, but He gives you the free will to give in or resist
temptation. Study the following passages to better understand this truth: 2 Samuel 24:1// 1 Chronicles 21:1.
Read James 1:14. Describe in your own words the destructive pathway of sin.
Pastor Doug shared 3 steps to help you withstand temptation: 1) Flee 2) Pray 3) Memorize Scripture. Which
of these is hardest for you? What do you need to choose now to do in order to resist temptation the next time?
Read I Corinthians 10:13. Challenge yourself to actively look for the way of escape God provides the next
several times you are tempted. This is such a real, practical promise from Him. In spite of the fact that it is in
the moment of the battle of choosing between God and flesh, try to step back to see how your Abba provides to
give you a way out. He is FOR you! Ask Him to give you ‘eyes to see.’
Pastor Doug also shared 3 steps to follow when you fall to sin: 1) Name it 2) Own it 3) Steward it. Identify
these steps in Psalm 32:1-11. Give a practical example of walking through this redemptive process.
