C ooke, S.J., the president o f the College, was na m e d 2003 R enaissance M an by the Buffalo Renaissance Foundation (BRF) earlier in the m onth o f June. “We’re pleased to h o n o r a pillar of the community like Father Cooke,” Jeffrey S. Vukelic, president o f the BRF, said. “ H e is a tru e renaissance man and exemplifies o u r foundationis mission to build a better Buffalo.” F a th e r C ooke has been p re sid e n t o f th e C ollege since 1993 and, during that time period, has raised the b ar for academic stan d a rd s and fu n d raisin g . He has overseen nearly $90 m illion in cap ital im p ro v em e n ts o n th e campus. The recent increase in freshman enrollm ent and move for Canisius to be ranked am ong top colleges n atio n ally has also been directly attributed to Father Cooke. The Buffalo News also honored Father Cooke in 2001, naming him an O utstanding Citizen for that year. The News also recognized him as one of the two most inffuential civil leaders. F a th e r C ooke was officially h o n o re d at th e sp rin g lu n ch eo n , hosted by BRF, June 10 at the Buffalo ConventionCenter.Proceeds collected from the benefit will go to the Niagara Falls Airbase Family Support Center and the Buffalo Zoo. S trigl, a graduate of Canisius, is nationally recognized as one o f the m ost prominent architects of the wireless communication industry. Past recipients of the honor include Robert E. Rich, Sr., Burt Flickinger, Seymour H. Know III and Paul J. Koessler, as well as others.
