Go for a walk in near by woods Collect sticks and
see if you can find a good tree for stickman and his
family to live in.
Set up a sensory tray with items from the story,
sticks, leaves, little figures, swans, dog, etc…
Play pooh sticks with a friend.
Make a sandcastle like the family in the story did.
What will you add to it? Do you have a mast for a
flag?
If there is snow out then build a snowman and find
the right stick for his arms!
Read the story together and then think about how
stickman and his family must feel being apart from
each other. What things does Stickman get used for?
How does he get home?
Look at the emotions in the story. The faces on the
characters at different parts of the story. What do you
think they are feeling and why?
Make your own family tree by decorating sticks for
each member of your family.
Look at how family trees are formed and how it
shows our family history.
Literacy
Read the story together and talk about the
different characters. Get the children to join in
with parts that they know and the repetitive
phrases in the story.
Use a story sack to enhance the story and
encourage conversation and children to take part
in the story telling.
Listen to the audio version of the story.
Watch the TV animation.
Ask the children to describe the characters from
the story. How do the Stick family look differently
from each other?
