Using KeyTrain® to prepare for your WorkKeys® assessment Sign up for KeyTrain – to prepare for WorkKeys or access Career Skills Training 1. Go to www.TalentABQ.org 2. Click on “for Job Seeker” on top of page 3. Fill out the form to register for a TalentABQ account and sign up for job search assistance. Be sure to check “yes” I would like to receive a free Skill up (KeyTrain) account– You will receive your KeyTrain login and password via email within 1-‐2 business days. You will also receive the KeyTrain web address to access the program. (https://run.keytrain.com ) Once you take the WorkKeys test, TalentABQ will work with you to match your skills to local jobs and set you on a course for success! KeyTrain – to access the prep site. This program can help you with academic and education gains. Typically, participants move up a skill level in a course for every 10-‐12 hours worked. The classes can help you raise any test scores by teaching you how to think. In addition to preparing for the Workkeys test, the training can help with the GED, TABE, and Accuplacer exams. The most common courses to start with are Reading for Information; Applied Mathematics and Locating Information. 1. 2. 3. 4. Go to: http://run.keytrain.com Enter your Login and password to access the site Click on “My Assignments” – You will see “Introduction to Key Train” Click on “Start” – and click on and review both “About KeyTrain” and “Using KeyTrain” You may choose to use volume (where they read you the info) or not, depending on your location. You can choose a career cluster to contextualize the KeyTrain pretests in Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics and Locating Information. Let’s say you are interested in computer technology. If you select the Information Technology career cluster, the questions you will answer in the KeyTrain pretests will be related to computers and information systems. To choose a career cluster, place your mouse cursor over where it says “Career Cluster” under the KeyTrain logo on the left side. An option for Career Cluster will appear under the logo. Click the “change” link and select a cluster from the list. Choose Training assignments – Applied Mathematics, Locating Information & Reading for Information are the tests you need to take to receive the “National Career Readiness Certificate.” If you are curious about what skills are needed for specific jobs, you can go to the Job Profiles to see what is required for your interest. If a job is posted as preferring or requiring WorkKeys the employer will list the tests required. Job Profiles -‐ 1. On the Home page, click on “Job Profiles” 2. Click on the “Search Tab” 3. Fill in Job Title (if you know what your looking for, ex: Medical Technician) or click on the drop down box and select a Job Cluster 4. Click on the “Search” button and your job titles will appear in the box below 5. Double click on any job listed below and a box will appear with the tests for that job Accessing your lessons 1. Return to Home Page – click on “Home” at top of page 2. Click on “my assignments” 3. Click on the Courses you want to work on. i.e. applied mathematics 4. Click on “start” and you will begin by taking a pretest to determine your level, take your time and think about each answer. 5. Have a pencil and paper ready to take notes 6. There are usually 6 levels but some have 7 levels – each level will have a quiz to determine which level you need to begin. 7. As you are answering the questions, you will not know which questions you answered correctly or incorrectly. This is because you will be taking the quiz again. 8. At the end of the quiz session, you will see your scores and at which level you will begin. 9. Begin each lesson by clicking on “Start”. You will start by reading or listening to the introductory lesson, no matter what level you are on. Career Skills – Pre Employment training. These are the personal skills individuals should master to succeed in the workplace. There are 200 interactive lessons in Work Habits, Business Etiquette, Job Search, Communication Skills and Workplace Effectiveness. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Click on “Career Skills” Start at the top and work your way down Click on the “Start” button Several lessons will populate Start by clicking on the top lesson Read or listen to each page then click “next” 7. At the end of each lesson, there will be a quiz – which WILL tell you if your answers are correct or incorrect, and will explain the correct answer to you. You must then correct the answer to move on. 8. There will then be a summary of each lesson. 9. You will then click on “next” to take you back to the lesson menu. 10. The lesson you completed will be checked off. 11. If you are done for the day, click on “EXIT” 12. The menu page will show you where you are in each lesson. a. To print a certificate of completion click the "Print Completion" link found in the status box of a lesson. b. To see a summary of all your Career Skills activity including scores for each topic, see your Career Skills Report. IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE TO LOG OFF AFTER EACH SESSION WorkKeys Testing Scheduling a WorkKeys test 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Go to TalentABQ.org Click on “For Job Seekers” Click on “Set up your time for a free assessment NOW!” Click on the web address in blue Follow the directions on the page: a. Click on region (city) b. Choose a testing site c. Choose one test to take – you must sign up for each individual test by itself. d. Choose a date – which can take some time to pull up. If you can’t get the calendar to populate you may call (505) 780-‐8488 or fill out contact us form on TalentABQ website. i. If there is no testing site listed for your area, call your local WFC to find where you can test. NOTE: If the website TalentABQ.org is not working properly and you are on Explorer, try using Chrome or FireFox as these internet search engines work better for this site. This can also be the solution if you’re trying to schedule your assessment on the scheduler and the calendar doesn’t populate.
