Welcome to the 2013 Lakeland Community College’s PSEO Presentation What is the PSEO Program? Lakeland’s Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program offers qualified high school seniors and juniors the opportunity to enroll at Lakeland on a part-time or full-time basis and earn college credit which will also be used to fulfill their high school graduation requirements. “There is such a thing as a free lunch!” PSEO Options Option A – Parents Pay Tuition, Books & Fees – Student elects to receive college credit ONLY. Option B – Tuition, Books, & Fees Paid by the District. Student elects to receive college & high school credit. PSEO Options (continued) Home School Students Self Pay - payment is made by the family for all tuition & books (Option A) Transfer coursework from home school program and enroll in your local district. (Option B) Transfer coursework from home school program and enroll in a public on-line high school (ECOT or BOSS). Nonpublic School Student - Application for Nonpublic Student Participation must be completed & postmarked by June 15, 2013. What is the COMPASS Exam Computerized exam created by ACT 3 parts: Math Reading Writing Test takes ~ 1 and ½ hours to complete— NOT TIMED Bring a calculator & picture ID to the test Compass Exam Group PSEO COMPASS Testing is available Monday at 3:30pm or 6pm and Wednesday at 3:30pm. PSEO students have 3 attempts to pass the exam. No charge is associated with the exam. Students will receive results immediately. RSVP at www.lakelandcc.edu/PSEO Math at Lakeland All students must pass the Math portion of the COMPASS exam EVEN if they do not want to take Math at LCC. Passing = Math 0950 (Intermediate Algebra ~ Algebra 2) ONLY students who have COMPLETED Algebra 2 in high school AND test ABOVE Math 0950 are eligible for Math courses at LCC. Most PSEO students wish to enroll in transferable courses. Refer to: www.transfer.org Other PSEO students wish to take classes that will help them solidify their future college plans. When do PSEO students take classes? ½ of all PSEO students attend part-time (1 – 4 classes). Part-time students traditionally attend AM classes. Parents have NO access to instructors, grades, etc. Attendance is not taken Financial Obligations for Students & Parents PSEO students attending a public high school (under Option B) have all tuition, fees and required textbooks paid. Books must be returned each semester. No OPTIONAL supplies or textbooks are covered (calculators, art supplies, camera, study guides, etc.) Financial Obligations for Students & Parents (cont.) 2009 - 2012 non-public students received 8 total credits paid via the program. The amount of funding is undetermined for 2013. Lakeland extends the coverage to 9 credits (3 total classes) Students who want to take more than 9 credits per year will be responsible for tuition/book costs above the approved amount. Nonpublic Student Participation Application for Nonpublic Student Participation (formerly140-NPP) - will be available in April 2013. This form will must be completed along with the green form from Lakeland and signed by your nonpublic high school and Lakeland. High school counselors MUST approve students’ Lakeland course schedules. Nonpublic Student Participation (continued) Applications must be postmarked between May 15 and June 15. Fax, email, or hand delivered applications will be not be accepted by the Department of Education. Applications postmarked after June 15 will not be accepted by the Department of Education for possible funding consideration. Financial Obligations for Students & Parents (cont) If you fail a course you WILL be financially responsible to your home school district for tuition and fees for the course. Many districts will mandate you return back to the high school if you fail a course required for high school graduation. Financial Obligations for Students & Parents (cont) Changes can be made to PSEO schedules with high school, instructor, and parental permission after the semester begins. Any withdraws between the 3rd and 9th week will result in a bill payable to your home district for the cost of tuition & fees. Commonly ask questions How can I be sure this is a good idea for me? Step 4: Pass the COMPASS Test Step 5: Student notified of acceptance.
