ENERGETIC REJECTION OF THE MISOGYNOUS, HOMOPHOBIC, XENOPHOBIC AND
DISCRIMINATORY MEASURES ADOPTED BY DONALD TRUMP
The Latin American and Caribbean Committee for the Defense of Women’s Rights (CLADEM)1 and the Network
for Popular Education among Women from Latin America and the Caribbean (REPEM LAC)2, reject the
misogynous, homophobic, xenophobic and discriminatory measures adopted by Mr. Donald Trump, President of
the United States of America, as we consider these measures to be a real retrogression for international policy.
We deem the measures to be contrary to the principles of respect, tolerance and peace that should prevail as
historic conquests for all humanity.
WE DENOUNCE the violation of sexual rights and reproductive rights though the reinstatement of the decree
known as the Global Gag Rule. The decree forbids the concession of official help to non-governmental
organizations and health care providers outside of the United States that advise or provide services for safe
abortions. The measure puts at risk the lives and health of women, and includes in its target those organizations
that lobby in favor of the decriminalization of abortion. Likewise, we denounce the homophobic measures to cut
the rights of the LGBTTIQ population, reforcing heteronormativity and maternity mandates. The measures go
against the guarantees of life and health that should be offered to women by a secular State that respects
human rights.
WE REJECT President Donald Trump’s decree, a xenophobic measure based on intolerance, which suspends the
admission into the United States of refugee populations, and women and men citizens of Muslim countries. The
measure has particular implications for the lives of women, violating the principle of religious freedom and
exerting a negative impact on women's rights.
WE ALERT all regarding the proclaimed intention to build a wall along the border with Mexico, because this
would violate the principle of “All human beings are free and equal before the Law”, as consecrated in the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is the expression of an enormous step backwards in terms of
migration, access to development, and the building of peace in our continent.
WE DEPLORE the use of symbolic violence, present in the public statements of Mr. Trump, as a mechanism of
control of one culture over others, thus perpetuating representations differentiated by social class, gender and
race that imply grave social repercussions and reflecting a culture of abuse and coercion. We also deplore that

the measure displaces debate regarding the challenges facing the States for compliance of the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs). These global objectives include facing the concentration of wealth in the world, the
growth of poverty worldwide, the arms race, and extractive industries policies. All of these issues have
profound effects on the lives of women.
WE CALL upon organizations and networks throughout the world to join in solidarity with the summons to
participate in the INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S STRIKE, to be held on March 8, 2017, to demand the cease of
violence against women, the guarantee of sexual rights and reproductive rights, the validity of a secular State,
and the unrestricted respect of human rights.
For the human rights of women and girls in the Americas and in the world!
