Symphony Math® is an online program that is based on ground breaking cognitive research and developmental psychology in the acquisition of deep Number understanding. The program provides a rich, cognitively designed learning environment as a foundation for your primary math curriculum (NZC Number Levels 1 to 4), or for math remediation. Personalises Math Instruction The Symphony Math instructional program provides a unique learning path for each student, focusing on foundational number sense to improve overall math ability. Years 1-8 Multiple Representations Instructive Feedback Active Scaffolded Support Concepts and Fluency Classroom Extensions Achievement Certificates The dynamic scaffolding in Symphony Math allows students to learn at their own pace. The program identifies gaps in each individual students mathematical understanding and personalises instruction, presenting a series of problems in a variety of application formats that are designed to fill in those gaps. The Symphony Math Dashboard provides realtime data to help guide instructional decision making. School, Group, Class and Individual reports provide information on students progress. Struggling students are immediately reported, and online Guided Practice materials can be printed or saved for use in small groups or 1:1 interventions. The program admin enables teachers to turn off levels or adjust speeds for their exception students who they would not want to work through all aspects of the program. Multiple Ways of Knowing Learning the Big Ideas in mathematics doesn’t happen by providing a barrage of multiple choice questions. In Symphony Math, students learn to represent concepts using a variety of visual models that help extend and reinforce their understanding. These models are tools that learners will master and use throughout their entire mathematics career. Each new concept builds on the previous ones. The result: a thorough understanding of number that promotes true mastery. Each concept is approached in multiple “Ways of Knowing” which help students make a connection between numbers and strategies: Manipulatives Manipulatives and Symbols Symbols Auditory Sentences Word Problems Automatic Recall Symphony Word Problem Symphony Fluency Round Instructional Curriculum Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 The Number Sequence Comparing Numbers Hundreds More / Less / Same Add & Subtract to 20 Add & Subtract with 100s Add & Subtract to 5 Tens Foundations for Multiplication Ten as a Unit Place Value & Operations Regrouping to 3-digits Fact Fluency (+-) to 5 with 10s Fact Fluency (+-) to 20 Fact Fluency (+-) with Tens Year 4 Year 5 Year 6 Multiplication & Division Add & Subtract Unit Fractions Multiplying Fractions and Introduction to Fractions Non-Unit Fractions Multiply & Divide to 100 Introduction to Decimals Multiply & Divide with Improper Fractions 1/10/100 Fact Fluency: X÷ to 100 Standard Algorithm Addition/ Year 1 Subtraction Expanded Form Multiplication/Division Fact Fluency: X÷ with Tens Year 2 Year 3 Year 4 Year 5 multiplication & division place value addition & subtraction basic number sense multiplication & division place value addition & subtraction basic number sense fractions & decimals multiplication & division Consolidation AT YEAR LEVEL 20 minutes 5x per week fractions & decimals Instruction STRATEGIC LEVEL Year 6 Year 7-8 fractions & decimals Remediation INTENSIVE LEVEL Whole Numbers Magnitude and Place Value Decimals to Thousandths Decimal Operations Fact Fluency: X÷ with Tens place value addition & subtraction basic number sense 15 minutes 4x per week 15 minutes 3x per week Research-Based and Proven Free iPad, Android apps Integrated Fluency Use At School and Home Browser-Only: No Install For more information, contact your Symphony Math representative: www.itecnz.co.nz 03 528 0094 line 1 [email protected]
