TYPING TEST-After submitting a completed application, candidates will be given a
date and time to complete a typing test during daytime hours December 1 –
December 4.
CIVIL SERVICE WRITTEN EXAM – If candidates pass the typing test, they will
receive an invite to complete a civil service written exam on the evening of December
14 or 15 from 4-8 p.m. This exam covers office skills such as proofreading, spelling,
writing expression, checking, filing, coding, basic math, and business math.
MICROSOFT TEST AND INTERVIEW-If candidates pass the written exam, they will
be invited to complete a Microsoft Office test and an interview between December 1622

NATURE OF WORK
This confidential position will assist the Confidential Police Administrative Assistant in
meeting his or her responsibilities. Supervision is received from the Chief of Police and
the Confidential Police Administrative Assistant.
FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT CLASSIFICATION
In accordance with Federal Fair Labor Standards Act requirements, this position has
been classified as non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position will be
paid overtime.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Assists the Confidential Police Administrative Assistant in a variety of duties including
but not limited to:
Function as a receptionist relaying calls, individuals and information to appropriate
members of the department as directed.
Receives and refers citizen complaints to Administrative Assistant.
Disseminate mail and deliveries.
Assist with clerical and filing responsibilities.
Assist in preparing department reports.
Assist with processing cash/check receipt transactions.
Assist with processing accounts payable and receivable.
Assist with maintaining office and printer supplies.
Assist with maintaining department records.
Provide backup duties to Records Clerk as necessary.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Extensive knowledge of business English, punctuation, spelling and arithmetic.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to multi-task efficiently.
Ability to take and transcribe oral and recorded dictation/information.
Ability to operate ten key calculator and complete data entry with proficiency.
Ability to prepare effective correspondence as needed.
Ability to understand oral and written communications.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public
and fellow employees.
Ability to maintain clerical records and prepare accurate reports as required.
Ability to use computers and other office equipment including using specialized software
applications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ability to read, speak, write and understand English to communicate effectively and
professionally with fellow employees as well as the general public.
Ability to operate computer, keyboard, calculator, telephone, scanner, photocopier and
similar office equipment.
Ability to sit for long periods of time for clerical/computer work.
Knowledge of modern office practices.
Ability to operate a keyboard accurately at a minimum of 50 wpm.
Ability to bend, reach, climb, stoop and lift 40 pounds for filing and records retrieval.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the work place
or citizens encountered during work.
Must be able to adhere to department rules and procedures.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High school diploma or GED plus a minimum of three (3) years of experience in
performing clerical/financial duties. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products is
essential.
