SWIMMING This Friday March 13th will be our last swimming lessons for term 1. Students are reminded as always to remember to pack their hats and a swimming shirt. It has been pleasing to see most students remembering these items and being SunSafe. The students have also displayed excellent behaviour out in the view of the public and should be very proud on how they have conducted themselves and represented the school and local community. PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS These interview will be conducted before the end of term. Each teacher will put out a timetable relevant to their own availability. We will endeavour to conduct consecutive interviews to suit families with children in multiple classes. These interviews are essential in the process of feedback and your attendance is highly encouraged. Sarah Donelan P/1/2, Laura Morse 3/4, Michaela Gilliland 6/7 2015 Student Leaders: Michaela Gilliland (Sports), Georgina Montgomery (School Captain), Lori Hefford (Vice Captain) P-‐2 News What’s happening in P-2? In English we are focusing on letters and their sounds, sight words, sentence structure and the difference between statements, questions and exclamations. We have been researching the Mo Willem’s serious of books themed ‘Don’t Let the Pigeon …’ Great fun is being had as we boss pigeons around that want to drive buses, eat donuts and find hot dogs! The kids have thoroughly enjoyed playing with this Apple app: https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/dont-let-pigeon-run-this-app!/id459749670?mt=8 that has supported this learning. If you are curious, check it out and boss the pigeon around yourselves! In mathematics we’ve been working on number sense, adding and subtracting numbers and sorting collections. Now we are busy doing surveys so we can collect and report on data. Surprise, surprise… chocolate is P-2’s favourite food, ahead of pies, broccoli and cake! It appears that chocolate is also our favourite flavour of ice-cream. In science we are discovering what it is that makes a thing living or non-living. We have been exploring various life cycles including humans, butterflies and rhinos. We’ve considered the way habitats support the needs of the things that live within them, and our role in protecting and supporting these habitats. We are also keeping busy with Geography. We have been learning about personal, local and regional spaces, the versatility of spaces, the importance of mapping and the variety of maps available, and have just started learning about continents, latitudinal lines and major oceans in the world. Some suggestions from the teacher: • It can be handy to have a spare set of clothes in a sealable bag at school just in case of accidents (toilet, mud, tears) • Children love having responsibilities. It makes them feel clever and important and helps them establish themselves as capable independent learners. You can help achieve this by encouraging them to take on challenges like the following: o Packing their own school bags and/or lunch boxes (food can be prepared for them) o Helping to set the dinner table Jen Hefford and Tammy Wendt UPCOMING EVENTS WEEK MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY th th th th th 7 9 10 11 12 13 P&C Meeting Swimming 3:00pm Last lesson of T1 th th th th 8 16 17 18 19 20th 5/6 & 3/4 Parent Teacher 5/6 & 3/4 Parent Teacher 5/6 Parent Teacher 5/6 & 3/4 Parent Teacher 5/6 Parent Teacher Interviews Interviews Interviews Interviews Interviews Soccer Trials 9 23rd 24th 25th 26th 27th P/1/2 Parent Teacher NRL Interviews Development Visit Netball Trials 10 30th 31st April 1st 2nd 3rd P/1/2 Parent Teacher P/1/2 Parent Teacher P/1/2 Parent Teacher Small School X-‐ Good Friday Interviews Interviews Interviews Country @ Start of Holidays Kioma SS
