Outcome of the Intolerable Acts First Continental Congress Sept 1774 • 50 leaders from 12 colonies First Continental Congress • Many spoke for their own colony, but needed to come together! • Love of country and hatred of tyranny united them • Sent KGIII a peaceful message. • Decided on new boycotts of British goods Militias formed • Patriots made militias incase new boycotts failed • Minutemen- ready to fight in 60 seconds • Marched and drilled Shot Heard ‘Round the World • Colonists were hiding gunpowder and weapons in Concord. • Paul Revere and William Dawes’ famous ride (The British are coming!- 1 if by land, 2 if by sea…) • Militia waited for British in Lexington, were attacked suddenly. Lost battle, Brits marched to Concord. – (Shot heard round the world) • North Bridge- Brits opened fire, expecting another win. • Colonists held positions, Brits retreated!
