Recreational Sports and Fitness Employment Information

FITNESS LEADER ($9.50 per hour) *Entry Level
This position is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe facility for members and guests. Specific requirements
include cleaning equipment, interacting with members, giving tours, demonstrating the use of equipment and reporting
specific problems to the manager. This highly visible job requires an individual who is responsible, outgoing, and enjoys
health and wellness. Individuals must be able to commit to work a minimum of 6-8 hours a week, are punctual, and are
interested in physical fitness.
MEMBER SERVICES SPECIALIST ($10.25 per hour)
This position is the main point of access for the Sports Center and provides information on Fitness Center memberships
and on the University in general. Specific requirements include greeting members and guests, checking in members,
answering questions and answering the phone. It is important to have a full understanding of the American University
community and the policies and procedures of the facility. This highly visible and interactive job requires computer skills
and an energetic, outgoing personality. Individuals must work a minimum of 6-8 hours a week and have prior customer
service experience.
LIFEGUARD ($10.25 per hour)
This position ensures the safety of members in and around the Reeves Aquatic Center swimming pools. Lifeguards are
responsible for guarding and communicating with members, and performing assigned tasks for pool maintenance. We are
looking for responsible and dependable people who are currently certified in Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid, and are
able to work up to 8-10 hours per week and are punctual.
INTRAMURAL SPORTS OFFICIAL ($9.50 per game) *Entry Level
Intramural Sports hires and trains referees for all major team sports including basketball, flag football, indoor & outdoor
soccer, softball and volleyball. These positions are physically active and sport and/or officiating experience is preferred.
Applicants can choose to work one sport or multiple sports depending on their interest. Officials work daily with
supervisors and other officials so good oral communication skills are desired. Schedules are flexible to fit week to week
academic needs. Employment is contingent on completion of the four-hour, preseason training course. Please check the
intramural website calendar for dates, times and locations.
GROUP EXERCISE INSTRUCTOR (Commensurate with experience)
Individuals interested in this position must be a nationally certified instructor interested in leading classes as part of our
group exercise schedule. Prospective instructors will be required to audition.
PERSONAL TRAINER (Commensurate with experience)
Individuals interested must be a nationally certified trainer and available to meet with clients on a weekly basis.
Applicants must be energetic and outgoing in addition to having experience in Personal Training.
WELLNESS AMBASSADOR ($10.25 per hour)
Wellness Ambassadors assist with the administration of RecFit programs and special events which primarily target
American University Students. Specific requirements include giving presentations on fitness & wellness topics, staffing
special events, and promoting programs.
PHOTOGRAPHER ($10.25 per hour)
Capture Recreational Sports and Fitness by taking pictures of special events, club and intramural games, programs, and
more!
OFFICE MANAGER – GRAPHIC DESIGN ($9.50 per hour)
Assist with various tasks including designing logos, banners, and miscellaneous graphics for RecFit programs, events,
webpages, and flyers. Experience with MAC computers and Adobe Suite programs are required.
