Welcome Back to Term 6!
It seems that the summer has finally arrived and we have been enjoying the weather this week in
school. The children have been thrilled to be back in the swimming pool and are already making
great progress. Thank you for sending them back looking very smart, with full P.E. kit and swimming
kit, ready to learn.
Fantastic New Classroom!
Caterpillars Class have been very excited to explore their newly refurbished classroom. It has been
completely transformed with new flooring, repainting, new smart screen and superb new furniture.
They have even made a few exciting additions to the outdoor classroom including a fabulous mud
kitchen! We are, as always, very grateful to Mr Wallis who has completed much of this work himself,
to Mrs Cullingworth, Mrs Smith and Mrs Barry for their work putting the new classroom together!
Caterpillars Picnic
Today we welcomed our new reception children to join us for Caterpillars Class Picnic, along with
their parents and carers. Everyone had a great time and it was wonderful to start to get to know our
new children and families. Caterpillars even baked some delicious jam tarts for the occasion!
Summer Fayre
It is only two weeks to go now until the Friends PTFA Summer Fayre, Saturday 25th June 11 - 2:30.
Please bring along as many supporters as you can to help the Friends raise important funds for the
children at our school. Don’t forget there are competitions to enter and our two Year 5 Businesses
will be hoping to make their first profit by running their own stall! Mufti Day for Tombola items will be
on Friday 17th June and for cakes on Friday 24th June. Thank You!
Dragonflies and Bees trip to Hastings Pier - Report By Dylan Blackwell
Recount Hastings pier poetry day Thursday 7th June 2016
With a smile on their face, everybody arrived at school for our Hastings pier poetry day on the 7 th June 2016.
After a short coach journey we arrived at Hastings pier and went inside a building where Justin Coe (a poet)
introduced himself with a few of his poems, raps and songs. I really like Justin’s poems. A nice lady called
Susan said that we would split into two groups, here’s what the group I was in did: firstly we walked down to
the beach and together we did actions for a funny poem called Doctor Nickabokernoo.
Secondly, we got a special booklet each so we could write notes about what we could see, hear, feel and taste.
We did this as we walked back to the The Birch Room, and we swapped around activities. In this activity we
had a bag per group with a piece of history from the pier, we had to feel it and describe it, our item was some
extremely old coins.
Slowly, we went onto the next activity, contrasting words. We had pictures of the pier at different times and
we had to think of words to describe the pictures. We also started mark making (basically we were making
different marks to do with music). Lastly, we wrote contrasting words in funny ways, eg ANGRY!
In the afternoon we had a great time on the beach creating natural art work inspired by artists such as Andy
Goldsworthy. When it was time to go home I felt that I had really enjoyed my day.
