It means Faith Lutheran extends a special welcome to those who are single, married, or divorced. It means we want to welcome the filthy rich as well as the dirt poor. We want to welcome those children who are crying or soon will be. It means you are welcome if you can sing like Justin Bieber or cannot sing at all. You’re welcome here if you’re “just browsing,” just woke up or just got out of jail. We don’t care if you’re more Lutheran than Old Martin or haven’t been to worship in who knows how long. We extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but not grown up yet, and to teenagers who are growing up too fast. We welcome soccer moms, NASCAR dads, starving artists, tree-huggers, lattesippers, vegetarians, junk-food eaters. We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted. We welcome you if you’re having problems or you’re down in the dumps or if you don’t like “organized religion,” we’ve been there too. If you blew all your offering money at the casino, you’re welcome here. We offer a special welcome to those who think the earth is flat, work too hard, don’t work, can’t spell, or because grandma is in town and wanted to go to church. We welcome those who are inked, pierced or both. We offer a special welcome to those who could use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down your throat as a kid or got lost in traffic and wound up here by mistake. In other words…. WE WELCOME YOU! GATHERING ORDER OF WORSHIP GATHERING SONG O Beautiful for Spacious Skies (#888) O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties above the fruited plain: America! America! God shed his grace on thee, And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea. O beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife, Who more than self their country loved, And mercy more than life: America! America! May God thy gold refine, Till all success be nobleness, and every gain divine. O beautiful for patriot dream that sees beyond the years Thine alabaster cities gleam, undimmed by human tears: America! America! God mend thine every flaw, Confirm thy soul in self-control, thy liberty in law. APOSTOLIC GREETING p. 203 KYRIE p. 203 Have mercy on us, Lord, and hear our solemn prayer. We come to hear your living word; it saves us from despair. Have mercy on us, Christ, and wash away our sin. Pour out your grace and make us whole That new life may begin. Have mercy on us, Lord; make sin and shame depart. Renew us with your saving pow’r; create in us new hearts! HYMN OF PRAISE p. 204 Glory be to God in heaven; peace, good-will to all the earth. Mighty God of all creation, Father of surpassing worth: We exalt you, we adore you, We lift high our thanks and praise. Saints and angels bow before you; Here on earth our songs we raise. Glory be to Christ forever, Lamb of God and Lord of love. Son of God and gracious Savior, You have come from heaven above; On the cross you died to save us; Now you reign at God’s right hand. Hear our prayer; restore, forgive us; In your promise firm we stand. Holy One we now acclaim you; Lord alone, to you we call; Holy One in faith we name you, God most high, yet near to all: Jesus Christ, with God the Spirit, In the Father’s splendor bright. For the peace that we inherit, glory be to God on high! PRAYER OF THE DAY SUGAR CREEK BIBLE CAMP INTODUCTION WORD CHILDREN’S MESSAGE Sugar Creek FIRST READING Galatians 6:1-16 GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Let the Vineyards Be Fruitful (#184) Let the vineyards be fruitful, Lord, And fill to the brim our cup of blessing. Gather a harvest from the seeds that were sown, That we may be fed with the bread of life. Gather the hopes and dreams of all; Unite them with the prayers we offer. Grace our table with your presence, And give us a foretaste of the feast to come. GOSPEL READING Luke 10:1-11, 16-20 SERMON SONG OF THE DAY Rise, Shine, You People! ( #665) Rise, shine, you people! Christ the Lord has entered our human story; God in him is centered. He comes to us, by death and sin surrounded, With grace unbounded. See how he sends the power of evil reeling; He brings us freedom, light and life and healing. All men and women, who by guilt are driven, Now are forgiven. Come, celebrate; your banners high unfurling, Your songs and prayers against the darkness hurling. To all the world go out and tell the story of Jesus’ glory. Tell how the Father sent the Son to save us. Tell of the Son, who life and freedom gave us. Tell how the Spirit calls from every nation God’s new creation. BAPTISM OF DEVIN MICHAEL KREIDERMACHER p. 227 Parents: Michael & Rebecca Kreidermacher Sponsors: Ben Woellert, Mandy & Chuck Emig Jesus Loves Me (#595) Jesus loves me! This I know, for the Bible tells me so; Little ones to him belong, they are weak, but he is strong. (chorus) Yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me, Yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE PASSING OF THE PEACE OFFERING SONG Sugar Creek OFFERTORY CREED My Church is composed of people like me. We make it what it is. It will be friendly if I am friendly. Its pews will be filled if I help fill them. It will be generous if I am a generous giver. It will be welcoming of others if I welcome others. This church will be a church of love, fearlessness, and faith if I am filled with these things. Therefore, with the help of God, I shall dedicate myself to the task of being all the things I want my church to be. MEAL WORDS OF INSTITUTION THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.
