Beiseker Community School
Several Gr. 10-12 students from
Beiseker Community School will
have the opportunity to participate
in the Calgary Construction Expo,
Apr. 4, beginning at 10:00 am. A
variety of trades and jobs from the
construction industry will be present
at the BMO Centre in Calgary –
including glazier, HVAC, carpenter,
mechanics and technical engineers
– for students to ask questions
of. Special thanks to the Calgary

Bow Valley High School
Bow Valley High School’s Music
Program is excited to participate in
the RVS JazzFest, held at Ambrose

Bow Valley High School’s annual
charity event - Time for Hope - wants
to give back to the community and
has chosen to do so by supporting
Family and Community Support
Services (FCSS). In its Time for Hope
Gives Back event, and through
FCSS’ Safe Coach Program, a group
of students and volunteers will do
community service activities on May
5. Donations for work done are
optional. At day’s end, BVHS Time
for Hope will host a celebration with
entertainment, food, and fun for any

Chestermere High School
Chestermere High School will host a
Transitional Vocational Fair, Apr.
12 from 5:00-7:00 pm in the South
Gym. The CHS Learning Support
team extends an invitation to this
event to families with children who
have special needs and learning

programs and resources available
to school-age children as well as to
those transitioning from high school.

Crossfield Elementary’s Parent
Council is excited to host its second
Free Family Movie Night on Apr. 7!
In keeping with the school’s emphasis
on literacy, the movie Charlotte’s
Web was chosen – a classic story
that began as a book and has been
adapted to the big screen where it
can be enjoyed by young and old
alike! To make it a fun pajama party,
everyone is invited to wear comfy
PJs and bring a favorite pillow
and blanket along. Doors open at
7:00 pm; free drinks/snacks will be
provided. Because this is a family
event, at least one parent must

Elementary’s Annual Math-A-Thon!
This year’s fundraiser has been
set to run Apr. 12-26, with monies
raised geared towards providing
enhanced learning opportunities for
students. Field trips, guest speakers,
and performing artists will enrich
student learning by providing
real-world applications of what
is being learned in class. Family
and community support is a great
investment and very appreciated.

École Airdrie Middle
École Airdrie Middle School is hosting
its first school-wide Maker Faire on
Apr. 13. Students will choose from
a list of teacher-led makerspace
activities and work together to
make something. From a new theme
song for the school mascot, to fairy
gardens and an EAMS Top Chef
challenge, this school is ready to
MAKE! At the end of the hands-on
day, students will circulate and check
out all of the other students’ maker

East Lake School
The Battle of the Books is in full
swing at East Lake. As teams,
students in Gr. 3-5 and Gr. 6-9
have read as many as 12 novels
and are now ready to battle it out
to see which team knows the most
about the books they’ve read. April
7, 12:00 pm, has been set aside for
the Battle Royale, where top teams
will be pitted against each other
in a final challenge to test reading
comprehension and recall. Sounds

East Lake School’s Leadership group
is spear-heading a March of Dimes
campaign, Mar. 27 - May 18.
Pop can tabs will be collected
to support the March of Dimes
charity, whose goal is to enhance the
independence, empowerment, and
community participation of people
with physical disabilities. Money
collected from recycling the tabs is
used to support the Assistive Devices
Program that helps to buy, repair,
and maintain assistive devices such

“Ride for One, Ride for All!” George
McDougall eagerly anticipates its
7th annual Ride of the Mustang, Apr.
11-13, with hopes of fundraising a
seven-year cummulative total of
$777,000. Currently, the Ride is one
of the top fundraising charity events
in Alberta organized by youth. Each
year this 48-hour stationary bikea-thon raises money for the Alberta
Children’s Hospital cancer unit,
with $649,000 donated to date.

and night sky when the Astrodome
Planetarium comes to the school

an inflatable dome and a highdefinition digital projector to create

Internet & Smartphone Education,

A joint venture between Mitford
School Council and AHS’ Community
Education Service, the workshop

safe, and the conversations needed
with children of different ages in
regard to Internet and smartphone

artist Shaun Boothe is making a

recognize the greatness that exists

Nose Creek Elementary
Not only is Spring in the air these
days, it’s also in the hearts and
voices of Nose Creek Elementary’s
Gr. 3 and 4 students as they practice
and prepare for their Welcome
Spring Concerts. The ‘budding’
musical talents of Gr. 3 students will
be on stage Apr. 11, with the Gr. 4s
up next on Apr. 12. Both concerts

Annual Me to We Used Book Sale,

Prairie Waters Elementary is “ready
to rumble” at its 4th Annual Battle
of the Books! The event will test the
trivia talents of 11 student teams
as they battle each other on finicky
facts from 15 books. Preliminary
battles have been set for Apr.
10-12, with the culminating battle
slated for Apr. 13 at 1:00 pm. A
highlight of the finale will see two
staff teams battle each other as
well, so you won’t want to miss it! To

Ralph McCall School
Read, Read, Read! Ralph McCall’s
Read-A-Thon, the final fundraiser of
the year, is set to run Apr. 3-23. All
proceeds will be directed to future
student events, with prizes awarded
to students who achieve fundraising
goals. Reading minutes will be
tallied daily in the classroom, and of
course, students encouraged to read
at home each night. As a kick-off on
Apr. 3, students will have the option
to dress like their favourite book
character and make personalized

R.J. Hawkey Elementary School

Westbrook School
A tradition at Westbrook since 1959,
the Annual Westbrook School Fair
is believed to be one of the longest
consecutive running fairs of its kind
in Alberta. Students and families
can participate by entering projects
that showcase their talents and
interests. The variety of categories
is broad, ranging from horticulture,
art, crochet, woodworking, science
and technology, architectural design,
sewing, fine arts, photography, pets,
baking, and more. Entry submissions
and judging take place Friday, Apr.
28, with the Fair open to the public
on Saturday, Apr. 29, from 11:30
am - 2:30 pm. In conjunction, the
Scholastic Book Fair also will run on
Saturday, with books and other fun
gizmos and gadgets available for
