SUMMARY OF TRAFFIC LAW CHANGES 2015 W.S. 31-5-301 MAXIMUM SPEED LIMITS: (Amended) Effective July 1, 2015, the following speeding violations for Wyoming drivers will be entered on the driving record as follows: POSTED SPEED DRIVING SPEED 80 mph 81-85 mph 86 mph or more DRIVING RECORD ACTION WILL NOT go on the record WILL go on record and count towards Suspension 70 mph 71-75 mph WILL NOT go on the record 75 mph 76-79 mph WILL NOT go on the record 80 mph or more 65 mph 66-79 mph 80 mph or more 60 mph 61-65 mph 66 mph or more 55 mph 56-60 mph 61 mph or more WILL go on record and count towards Suspension WILL NOT go on the record WILL go on record and count towards Suspension WILL NOT go on the record WILL go on record and count towards Suspension WILL NOT go on the record WILL go on record and count towards Suspension W.S. 31-5-301(b) MAXIMUM SPEED LIMITS: (Amended) Effective July 1, 2014, unless otherwise indicated, the maximum speed limit on paved roads is 65 mph, and 55 mph on unpaved roads. NOTE: Any violations for exceeding the speed limit in a school zone, or construction zone will go on record. COMMERCIAL VEHICLE: All speeding violations in a commercial vehicle will go on the driving record. Violations of fifteen (15) miles per hour or more over the posted speed limit will count towards a disqualification. *Note: Violations in the personal vehicle of a CDL holder may cause a disqualification. W.S. 31-5-203 (c) Effective July 1, 2015, the driver of a motor vehicle overtaking and passing a bicycle, which is operating lawfully, proceeding in the same direction shall, when space allows, maintain at least three (3) foot separation between the right side of the driver’s motor vehicle, including all mirrors and other projections from the motor vehicle, and the bicycle. W.S. 31-5-102 (ii) (C) (I) (II) Effective July 1, 2015, (ii) "Authorized emergency vehicles" means: (C) A wrecker, tow truck or other vehicle equipped with a mechanical apparatus designed to hoist, pull or otherwise move wrecked, disabled or stalled motor vehicles: (I) While at the scene where the wrecked, disabled or stalled motor vehicle is located; and (II) When equipped with at least one(1) flashing red and blue lamp visible from five hundred (500) feet in front of and behind the vehicle, in addition to any other equipment or lights required or authorized by law. W.S. 31-7-111(b)(xii) VETERAN’S DESIGNATION CERTIFICATION: Effective July 1, 2013, certification by the Wyoming veterans’ commission that the applicant is an honorably discharged veteran of the armed forces of the United States, if the applicant wishes to have a veteran designation pursuant to W.S. 31-7-141. W.S. 31-8-201(c) ISSUANCE OF IDENTIFICATION CARD BY INSURERS; INFORMATION: Effective July 1, 2013, the identification card prescribed by this section may be carried by the insured in an electronic format if: (i) the insured and the insurer both agree to the issuance of the card in electronic format; and (ii) the electronic identification card contains the information required by this section.
