THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE: The results of the Thanksgiving food Drive are in! 1ST Place by
almost twice the points earned by the next closest house is YELLOW. 2 nd by a narrow margin is
BLACK. 3rd is WHITE and in 4th is GREY. Thank you to all those that contributed to this very
worthy cause!
REMINDER FOR ALL LORAN APPLICATIONS – Please submit your application in person to Ms.
McRae in the Counselling Department by TODAY (Friday Oct. 7th) no later than 3pm. The
application cannot be left in her mailbox, nor be put under her office door. Good luck to all
applicants!
DISNEY WORLD/UNIVERSAL STUDIOS TRIP: Are you interested in going to Orlando Florida next
Spring to learn the Science behind the scenes at Universal Studios and Disney World? If so,
please see Ms. Morenz or Ms. Jensen in the science department for an information package
and application. Applications are due next Tuesday October 11th. There will be more
information coming over the Talon Talk. There will also be an information meeting for parents
and students to be announced.

MODEL U.N. CLUB: Do you enjoy arguing with the Social’s teachers? Are you a fan of political
debates and worldly issues? Does the idea of attending conferences in the heart of downtown
Vancouver excite you? If so, come to Model U.N. Club’s first meeting today (Friday) at lunch in
Mr. Milliards’s Room 118. See you there!
SPORTS
SENIOR GIRLS FIELD HOCKEY: The girls beat Riverside Secondary 2-0 in field hockey yesterday!!
They will take on Maple Ridge tomorrow.
SENIOR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Attention all students who like to shop! The Senior Girls Volleyball
team is selling student price cards again. Get your SPC card for only $10. Savings all year
round! See Ms. Demonte or one of the team members to get your card.
CAREER CENTER
INTERESTED IN FIRST AID? Students interested in obtaining their Occupational First Aid (OFA)
Level 1 certification there is a course available: Friday, October 21 (pro-d day). The all day
(8.30am - 4.00pm) course is offered in Burnaby (#110 - 2250 Boundary Road… 10 min walk from
Gilmour SkyTrain station) and is only $70. Class is limited to 10 students (first come, first
served). Must be 16 years old and have government issued photo ID (ex: driver's license or
valid passport). Those interested can contact Mr. MacLean by phone (604-341-8977) or email

FORKLIFT CERTIFICATION: "Forklift" certification training on October 21 and 22 (pro-d day and
Saturday). The all-day (9.00am - 3.00pm) course is only $199. Training site is 857 Cordova
Diversion in Vancouver. Class size is limited to 6 students and done on a “first come, first
served” basis. Interested students can see Ms Devlin in the counselling center for an application
form and you will find them posted on my office window. Course is $199 – cash or cheque

DREAM IT BE IT – CAREER SUPPORT FOR GIRLS: Join us for “Women in Science” What does a
hydrologist do? How about an environmental engineer? Or a research scientist? Meet our
panel of women scientists. Bring your questions! Saturday, November 5 th 2016, 1 pm-3 pm
Room 127 of Coquitlam City Centre Library.
