Autumn Term
Maths
Number and Place Value up to 7 digits – ordering, rounding and changing digits.
Adding and subtracting mentally, using written methods and problem solving.
Properties of shapes – building 3Dshapes, nets of cubes and cuboids and nets with triangular faces.
Multiplication – ThHTOx0, TOxTO, multiples and factors and problem solving.
Division – ThHTO divided by 0, by 11 and 12 using the formal written method of short division and
problem solving. Using multiples and factors.
Fractions – common factors and multiples, ordering, adding and subtracting. Fractions and decimal and
percentage equivalents.
Decimals – adding, subtracting and multiplying. Multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. Rounding
decimals.
Position and Direction – using coordinates to locate shapes. Plotting in the 4 quadrants. Translating and
reflecting shapes.
Measurement – converting units of length and time, converting miles to kilometres, calculating speed and
problem solving.

Non Chronological Report - Judaism
Drama – the Blitz. Write a descriptive piece.

Letter writing – soldier writing home from the trenches in WW1. Evacuation letter.
Explanatory text – Circulatory system
Recount – Visit to Woodcock Wells and Congleton museum.
Newspaper report – Munich Agreement and Hitler’s betrayal.
Biography – family member or someone famous who lived during WW2.
Play scripts – based on Blitz drama.
Balanced Argument – arguments For and Against; debate and write a balanced argument from this.
Narrative – based on WW2 topic
Poetry – research, read and discuss, perform. Create own poems.
Guided Reading – based on the text: Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.
Weekly spellings – looking at patterns, root words, prefixes, suffixes and letter strings, and being able
to transfer and use this knowledge in their own writing.
Grammar and Punctuation – nouns, verbs, adjectives, prepositions and adverbs. Look at the different
tenses and when they are used. Sentence structure – main clause, subordinate clause and relative clauses.

Identify and name the main parts of the human circulatory system, and describe the functions of the
heart, blood vessels and blood.

Describe the ways in which nutrients and water are transported within animals, including humans.
Living Things and their Habitats:
Describe how living things are classified into broad groups according to common observable
characteristics and based on similarities and differences, including micro-organisms, plants and animals.
Give reasons for classifying plants and animals based on specific characteristics.
Health Week: keeping safe and healthy, balanced diet, exercise, sleep/relaxation and drinking water.
