Camp Life
When first arriving at camp, you may be nervous. That’s okay! I know
how you feel. This is my first year too! Maybe you’re nervous because
you are homesick and miss your mom and dad. Or maybe it’s because
you are worried about making friends. But it doesn’t matter because
your arrival at Camp Nah-Jee-Wah will get you pumped for the following weeks! When you arrive, you will find your luggage and head over to
the nearest division head or senior counselor. They will then tell you
what bunk you are in and take you over to it. Once inside, you will be
greeted by your fellow bunkmates and counselors. From there, you will
be unpacked and given a tour of the camp. After, you will get to go to
your first delicious lunch! Then you will continue on with your day…and
with your adventure at Camp Nah-Jee-Wah!

1, 2, 3, 4, We Want Color War!
On Saturday, July 18th, we had our first session Color War. The theme was “Battle
on Broadway” and the teams were Directors vs. Producers. We did so many fun
things! I personally participated in the Broadway Mash-Up and the obstacle course at
athletics. The Broadway Mash-Up was made up of 2 campers from each division. We
had to pick 3 songs from Broadway, one being a Barbara Streisand song. My team
chose songs from Funny Girl, Annie, and Hairspray. Then, we taught it to the entire
team. It was a lot of fun! Get ready for next session’s Color War!

Swimming, Swimming…
The pool is one of my favorite places at camp. It has many things to play with including kickboards and noodles. There’s both Instructional Swim and Recreational
Swim (also known as “Rec Swim” for short). My favorite is Rec Swim. During Instructional swim, you get sent with a lifeguard to a certain section of the pool and
you learn how to become a better swimmer with other campers who swim at the
same level as you. During Recreational Swim, you just get to freely swim around
and play with different pool toys!

Activities
High Ropes
You breathe in heavily as the blue sky turns black while the blindfold slips over your eyes.
You start climbing…
If you don’t know what I’m talking about yet, I’m talking about being blindfolded at High
Ropes! Not many people have tried doing High Ropes blindfolded, but the people who
have tried it loved it. Doing the elements blindfolded is all about taking the leap of faith on
the broken bridge and trusting the people under you. It’s about just letting go. Another
bonus from High Ropes is that you get an achievement award for taking that leap of faith. If
you do every element blindfolded, you get a rainbow bracelet. High Ropes will help you get
rid of your fears and learn to let go!

Den and Studio
“You can
make
whatever
you want!”
What first comes to mind when you think of Den and Studio? Activities for girls? That’s what most people
think, but their projects are for both boys and girls. For instance, you can make an App Pillow at Studio.
You probably think that you can only make Instagram or Snapchat pillows, but you can do ESPN, Clash of
Clans, Flappy Bird, etc. You can make whatever you want! Or, in Den, you can make tie-dye. You may
think the only colors you can use are red, pink, or purple, but there are many other colors like blue, green,
yellow, and black. You can always use your favorite sport team’s colors! Do NOT judge a book by its cover. So, in this case, just because a bunch of girls always sign up for Den and Studio, don’t think that the
projects are just for girls. So, sometime this summer, look at what Den and Studio have lined up for their
projects and sign up!
-Owen and Ethan, Levi
Models
In Models, you get to make a lot of things! You can make
bridges, planes, etc. On the first day, you get to build your
project. On the second day, you get to decorate and paint
your project. Sometimes, you can finish building on the second
day too. Elias is the counselor who works at Models. He is
very nice and helps you a lot! If you have extra time at the end,
you can free-build!

Activities
“Girls, come sit down,” Dana says before she
starts the project. In Studio, you can make cool
arts and crafts projects. At Studio, everyone has a
blast. You can make vases, designer shoes, 3-D
letters, and so much more! Studio is a lot of fun,
so try it out!
-Ayva, Hannah
Every time Asher has the option of signing up for Fishing, it is always packed with 3 to 5 kids. Connor is the
teacher. He uses different bait almost all the time! He
once used corn and caught 3 fish with it. Although the
kids are disappointed that they don’t get to keep the
fish that they caught, they still have a great time! So, if
you want to try fishing, I suggest you sign up for your
next elective cycle! It’s awesome!!!

Low Ropes
“It’s a very
Low Ropes is one of my favorite activities! The obstacles are tough, but VERY fun.
Campers are always happy to have Low Ropes as an activity. A few of my favorite
obstacles are Shark Attack (a wall of stones to climb up. I suggest a race on this baby), Islands (a game of balance on to boards), and the Wiggly Log (a log that wiggles
and wobbles.) Low Ropes is good for bonding with your friends, and it’s also a very
exciting place to be if you want to have fun. Do you think you’re up for the challenge?

In Robotics, we use Legos to build moving
robots that do cool things. The robots can
follow a line, play soccer, grab things, and
race each other. Each week, the things you
build get harder and better. If you are
struggling building the robots, you can follow the instructions. Michael, the teacher,
can also help you. It’s a lot of fun!
-Ryan, Dan
At Nature, there is so much to do. You can do
projects and make binoculars . There are so
many animals. You can pet the baby lambs, the
baby goat, and one donkey. Just be careful, you
don’t want step in poop! You can also look at
the lizards, guinea pigs, bunnies, and more. So,
visit Nature soon! There is so much to do in so
little time!

Camp Mom
Camp Mom is here to help solve all of your camp problems! You can write
to her with things that are bothering you and she will try to help you find a
solution. To write to her, drop her a letter inside of the box outside of the
Den that says “Camp Mom” on it!
Dear Camp Mom,
I am a Second-Sessioner. I just got here and I love
camp! But I moved into a bunk with girls who were
already here from first session. They’re all friends
already and I feel like it is hard to fit in. What should I
do?
From,
Newcomer
Dear Newcomer,
I understand the situation, and I feel like this is a very
common issue in camp! The best thing to do is to be
patient. It is a new situation for everyone in the bunk,
and everyone needs a little time to adjust to it. Eventually, the girls from first session will realize how great
you are, and you will all become friends! Just make
sure to be yourself!
Dear Camp Mom,
I was in a 4 week bunk, but I extended. Now I’m in a
bunk with all new girls and I miss my first-session
friends. What should I do?
From,
Lonely
Dear Lonely,
Firstly, there is nothing wrong with missing your firstsession friends! But they’re at home and you’re still at
camp. Since you’re still at camp, you have the opportunity to make even more friends! When you miss your old
friends, write them letters. But definitely do not stop
trying to make new friends. Nah-Jee-Wah is the perfect
place to discover new, long-lasting friendships. Now go
out there and meet some new people!
-Camp Mom

Dear Camp Mom,
Today, I came back from a soccer tournament to see my
sunscreen on someone else’s cubby. He never asked me
to use it and it really upset me. Should I tell on him or just
take it back?
From,
Upset Camper
Dear Upset Camper,
Because there are many people living in your bunk, it is
very possible that someone has the same sunscreen as you
do. It is possible that you misplaced yours. It is also possible that the person who used your sunscreen didn’t realize that it was yours. Accidents happen.
It would be a good idea to write your name on your
things with a Sharpie from now on. Another good idea
would be to simply ask your friend (in a nice way) to
check if the sunscreen is his. I would also ask your counselor to have a discussion with the bunk about respecting
each other’s belongings. These tips should help you!
-Camp Mom
Dear Camp Mom,
I just got here and discovered all of the amazing electives that are here at camp! I want to do all of them,
but I’m nervous I won’t have time. What should I do?
From,
#Overwhelmed
Dear #Overwhelmed,
All you need to do is prioritize your activities. If you
know you want an activity that fills up quickly, sign up
for it when it is your bunk’s turn to be first to sign up.
If that still doesn’t work, suggest doing it for your
Bunk Night activity! Odds are, your bunkmates want
to do it too! Good luck!
