Preschool Palm Tree’s Weekly Newsletter
The children have
really enjoyed
sharing during ‘Show
and Tell’
Activities Covered:
This past week we have learnt about the 4 Seasons and in
particular Winter.
In Communication and Language, we discussed how cold
some countries get and that they might have snow and ice
while others have a much milder winter. We learnt that in
some countries that get really cold, some animals hibernate.
In Mathematics, we have been learning about different
sizes. We built a snowman using different sized circles and
then drew on his features. In another activity, we had to
count out the correct number of ‘marshmallows’ to add to
our ‘hot chocolate drink’.
In Expressive Art and Design, we created a beautiful
winter tree snow scene using some different techniques.
In Physical Development, we played a game called ‘Freeze’.
We danced to the music and then had to freeze when the
music stopped. There were some really funny positions that
we ended up in!
In Phonics, we learnt the sound /d/. We made a handprint
duck craft to help remind us of the sound.
Our Thursday activity “Winter Games” was amazing. We
had so much fun with all the ice activities. We bowled with
ice balloons, we raced against all of Preschool to see who
could build a snowman the fastest and collected as many
snowballs as we could. It was a great way to end the week!
We learnt about
animals that
hibernate during
winter and made
cozy homes for
some of these
animals
Upcoming Activities:
This week we will be warming up the class rooms as we
explore the second topic under the Seasons theme,
Summer.
In Communication and Language, we will read the
story ‘It’s Raining, it’s Pouring’ and we will try to
identify the rhyming words in the story. We will also
look at how different summer is in different countries.
In Mathematics, we will be exploring shapes in the
environment. We will also be using a variety of shapes
to create a yacht scene.
In Understanding of the World, we will talk about sun
play safety and what we need to do when we are in the
sun and how we need to protect ourselves. We will make
a pair of crazy sunglasses to help us remember these
rules.
In Phonics, we will learn the sound /g/ and sing along to
the phonic song. We will also be making a goldfish craft
to help us remember the sound.
Sounds like another fun week ahead!
In Maths we learnt
about different
sizes and we then
made snowmen using
3 different size
balls of playdough.

share it with the other children. They had a lot of fun kicking the ball around the playground!
We concluded our ‘Winter’ topic with participating
in a range of winter games and dressing up in our
winter woollies.
