CALL FOR PARTICIPATION SIMFOR 2016
On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the VIII International Symposium on Sustainable
Forest Management (SIMFOR 2016) you are cordially invited to participate in this important
event on forestry science from June 15 to 17, 2016, to be held at University of Pinar del Río,
Cuba.
AIMS
The experiences obtained in earlier symposium editions are taking into account to propose the
following objectives:
1. To show the progress in forestry science towards the implementation of sustainable
management in Cuba and other countries.
2. To contribute to expand contacts and to exchange experiences about forestry resources
sustainable management among researchers, producers, technicians, academics, students,
policy makers and all persons related to the forestry sector.

SYMPOSIUM STRUCTURE
 Plenary sessions: provide presentations of renowned experts on forestry for keynote
speakers. (45 min. for the presentation, 15 min. for questions and comments)
 Poster Session: A self-explanatory exhibit in which presenters are available for
discussion with participants. The poster is to be mounted in a display board and it should
not exceed 82 cm wide by 120 cm high. (1 hour)
 Sub plenary sessions and oral presentation: 15 min. for the presentation, questions and
comments at the end of every session.
OFFICIAL SIMFOR LANGUAGE
The official language will be Spanish. Portuguese and English languages are allowed for poster
exhibition only.
IMPORTANT DATES
 Deadline for abstracts: March 30, 2016.
 Acceptance decisions will be made no later than April 30, 2016
 Deadline for papers: May 30, 2016. All accepted papers will be published in the
symposium proceedings.

 Author name(s) following publication standard format using Arabic numeral, to indicate
scientific degree and affiliation address -at the bottom of the first page. (centred, Arial 11point font)

 Main text should not exceed 250 words describing the objective of study, touch on the
methods, main results and conclusions in plain writing. (in block, Arial 12-point font)

Use A4 paper format, single-spaced text with 2,5 inches margins on all sides.

 Begin the paper with a 250-words abstract, which describes the objective of study, touch
on the methods, main results and conclusions in plain writing, in block, Arial 12-point
font.

 Abstract and key words, translated into English Language.
 Introduction: topical significance, background and objectives of the study. (in block, Arial
12-point font)
 Materials and methods: context of the study, methodology, statistical study, etc
 Results: present in details the results obtained which should be closely related to the
general objective.
 Conclusions: closely related to the general objective.
 Bibliography: use alphabetical order; follow an established order for presenting references
and personal communication. Web pages references are accepted.
 Use A4 paper format, single-spaced text with 2.5 inches margins on all sides. The paper
should not exceed 10 pages including bibliography, notes, tables, illustrations and
diagrams. Do not include annexes.

REGISTRATION
 Cubans Delegates: 200, 00 CUP
 Foreign Delegates: 180, 00 CUC
 Foreign students: 140, 00 CUC
 Foreign Accompanying: 60, 00 CUC
The registration fee will be payed in cash at the symposium venue upon registration. It includes
access to the scientific program and social events, symposium documentation, the registration
package, presenter/attendance certificate. The foreign students should present a letter/certificate
of the institution where he/she studies.
All prices in CUC (Cuban Convertible Pesos), the exchange to this monetary unit can be done at
airports, bank agencies, hotels. It can be exchanged Euros, American and Canadian Dollars,
