Service Plunge Crew Eric Marble Junior Civil Engineering Newberg, OR Special interests: Just about anything environmental or engineering-related. Eric also likes to volunteer, play the trumpet in the UP Pep Band, any outdoor activities, videogames, board games, and reading. Eric’s campus involvement: College Ecology Club, American Society of Civil Engineers, Orchestra, Engineers Without Borders, Spielfriek Society, Student-Led Unity Garden, Outdoor Pursuits Program, and the Moreau Center, of course! Rachel O’Reilly Sophomore Nursing & Social Work Vancouver, WA Special interests: Volunteering, golfing, traveling, camping, skiing, and advocating. Daniel Morantte Sophomore Elementary Education Special interests: My interests are working with students (grade school- high school) who have disabilities. I hope to work at a title 1 school when I graduate. Also, my interests include watching independent and international horror films. Anatomy, a German film, is one of many that I enjoy. Elissa Norton Junior Organizational Communication Bend, OR Special Interests: Elissa loves soccer, playing the violin, singing, reading, community service (obviously), river rafting, skiing, and snowboarding. Elissa’s campus involvement: Elissa is a communication studies major with a focus on public relations. Elissa is coleading the Alaska Plunge 2010 Spring Break through the Moreau Center. This is her second year leading the service plunge and her third year involved with it. Fun Facts about Elissa: She is a red head and she lives up to that reputation. And she actually met her boyfriend on the service plunge, James May their freshman year. Brian’s campus involvement: Collegiate Challenge 09, FISH (a Christian worship group), and he has a job working in the Engineering building. Fun facts about Brian: He is generally slow on catching jokes, doesn't know any actors names, and Brian has never had caffeine. Lindie Burgess Junior Mechanical Engineering Columbia Falls, MT Special interests: Lindie enjoys figuring out how people interact with each other, finding out how things work, and HAVING FUN!!!!!! Lindie’s campus involvement: Bathsheba: The Women's Club Ultimate Frisbee team, Freshman Service Plunge 08-09, Rural Plunge 07-08, Collegiate Challenge 07-08, 08-09, Lindie plays the saxophone in the UP Concert Band, but mostly enjoy playing jazz or in small ensembles. She also worked with Rebuilding Together, Portland, which is similar to Habitat for Humanity, but instead of building houses from the very beginning, we rework standing houses. The program is aimed at helping the impoverished people of Portland who aren't looking for a hand out, but need a hand up. Fun facts about Lindie: She is the 5th child in a line of 10. That's right, she has 9 siblings who all have the same parents, and there are no twins among them. Her Mom is AMAZING :) Montana is her home state and she loves building things with my hands. Alli Romolino Sophomore Biology Clayton, CA Special Interests: Tennis, pole vaulting, soccer, running, cooking baking, and Harry Potter. Alli’s Campus Involvement: Weekly mass, intramural sports, and a Prefrosh host Fun facts about Alli: Everyone thinks she look like Shawn Johnson, Last summer she observed open heart surgery, she is obsessed with pigs and when she is older she plans to have a pet pig. Leah Biesiadecki Sophomore Nursing Oregon City, OR Special Interests: Leah loves to dance. She dances wherever and whenever. She really enjoys the outdoors and tries to be outside as much as she can. She also enjoys cooking, baking, traveling, seeing new places, meeting new people, scrapbooking and just enjoying life to the fullest. Leah’s Campus Involvement: She was involved with Intramural sports - ultimate Frisbee & basketball. She also is involved with FISH, a Christian worship group on campus. Fun facts about Leah: She is an identical twin (her twin Bekah is also a leader). She can also say the alphabet backwards very fast. YEAH! She also used to dance ballet for 8 yrs. The summer before her freshman year of college Leah was given the opportunity to go to France with just her twin sister, a total dream come true. Haylee Goode Senior Nursing West Linn, OR Special Interests: Dancing, riding bikes, rock climbing, and loving people. Haylee’s campus involvement: FISH (a Christian worship group on campus), She was on the dance team for a year, and she was an RA in Mehling 08-09. Fun Facts about Haylee: She can cover her nostrils with her upper lip. She tries to smile continuously for at least two hours a day and sometimes she has to put a hanger in her mouth for the last thirty minutes. She loves the color green. She thumb wrestles herself... her right hand is winning at the moment. Haylee also loves meeting new people especially in random coffee shops while waiting to order her drink. Claire Shepek Sophomore Nursing Fort Collins, CO Special interests: Claire likes bikram yoga, heliskiing, knitting sweaters, reality television, Nordstrom, thrift shops, lifeguard triathlon, and sleeping. Claire’s campus involvement: ASUP & UPSNA Fun facts about Claire: She has broken all of the fingers in both hands. Christine Patterson Junior Nursing Special interests: Christine especially loves to read, run, and play Frisbee. Christine’s campus involvement: Christine is involved in FISH (a Christian worship group) as a Bible Study leader and she is one of the captains of the women's club Frisbee team for the upcoming year. Fun fact about Christine: She trained to run a half marathon this last year, and she is proud to say that she accomplished it! Jocelyn Cabrera Sophomore Elementary Education Special Interest: Jocelyn is interested in helping other people as much as she can. She loves to read, dance, sing, and cook. Jocelyn also loves to hang out and spend time with my friends and family. Jocelyn’s Campus Involvement: She is a regular volunteer with Br. Andre's Cafe and TPI, a member of the Guam Club, and she danced for the Hawaii Lu'au. Jocelyn also participated in the Service Plunge at the beginning of the school year, helped organize and cook for Guam Night and GotAdobo night (International Club). Laura Atwell Sophomore Communication Gresham, OR Special Interests: Laura likes drawing, painting, clothing design, baking, and eating. Laura’s Campus Involvement: Intramural Ultimate Frisbee, Right for Life Club Fun Facts about Laura: She has coached swim teams and boys lacrosse teams. She is the fourth out of six children in her family, and she has done a triathlon. Kelsey Rea Senior Spanish & Social Work Littleton, CO Special Interests: traveling, playing with children, singing, volunteering, social work, dogs (especially service dogs), speaking Spanish, learning about the ocean, having fun adventures, hanging out with my friends, having good, deep conversations Kelsey’s Campus Involvement: lots of stuff with campus ministry (P & F [Praise and Fellowship], FISH [a Christian worship group], bible studies, chapel choir, other stuff), lots of stuff with the Moreau center (Nicaragua plunge, other past plunges - collegiate challenge, urban policy, general volunteer stuff – TPI (Transition Projects Inc), other similar things) Fun Facts about Kelsey: She spent 5 weeks in Central America this summer, has an internship at guide dogs for the blind, and Kelsey really likes peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Kyle Figura Biology Sophomore Special interests: basketball, camping, hiking, campfires, boating, and the outdoors in general Kyle’s Campus Involvement: He is the SJC (Student Justice Coordinator) of Christie Hall this up coming year. Last year he was the senator of Christie Hall and played almost every intramural sport offered. Fun facts about Kyle: He is just an ordinary guy trying to ride the wave of life. Becca Kent Junior Nursing Special Interests: Becca loves meeting new people and seeing them smile, sunsets, sports, hugs, ice cream, traveling, best friends and deep talks, the beach, family, music, dogs, movies, dark chocolate, hanging out with kids, new experiences, taking risks, sleeping in, storms, dancing, snowball fights, being spontaneous, helping people and laughing. Becca’s Campus Involvement: She enjoys playing sports so she tries to do intramurals when she can. Becca was a freshman orientation assistant last year. Deliberating over his fantasy football and basketball teams, animals, Peanut Butter, and applying to grad schools around the country. Sam’s Campus Involvement: Biology tutor. Chemistry workshop leader and Service plunge. Fun facts about Sam: He loves rap from the dirty south. Niki Bothman Sophomore Nursing, Spanish Eugene, OR Special Interests: Playing ultimate Frisbee, piano, reading and ministry. Niki’s Campus Involvement: “uhhh, I’m a student …haha” Fun facts about Niki: She loves her family a lot (except for her sister’s evil cat). She’s a pretty happy person and skydiving is her favorite sport! Kelsey’s Campus Involvement: Her freshman year she was involved in Kenna Hall Council, College Ecology Club, and the Native Alaskan Service Plunge." Kenna Hall Council, actively involved in College Ecology Club, and went on the Native Alaskan Service Plunge. This year Kelsey is a SJC (Student Justice Coordinator) in Kenna Hall and Co-President of College Ecology Club. Fun Facts about Kelsey: Her birthday is the Presidential Inauguration Day, she could eat ice cream all day, everyday (she even works in an ice cream parlor this summer), and she can wiggle her ears. Kevin Hershey Sophomore Spanish Special Interests: Traveling, singing, reading, and Minnesota Kevin’s Campus Involvement: SJC (Student Justice Coordinator) in the Village, and the Nicaragua plunge through the Moreau Center Fun Facts about Kevin: He is a dual citizen and he has been to 46 states. Kitchen Crew Laura Masterson Senior Social Work & Spanish Puyallup, WA Special Interests: photography, buying insane amounts of food at COSTCO, outdoor sports, specifically rafting, rock climbing, and caving, singing Laura’s Campus Involvement: Fish (a Christian worship group), Moreau Center, Campus Ministry Fun Facts about Laura: She is left handed but play sports and use scissors with her right hand. Lauren Freeland Sophomore Life Science Orange County, CA Special Interests: Lauren enjoys playing sports, being outdoors, and attending religious conferences Lauren’s Campus Involvement: She plays intramural basketball, Frisbee, and softball.
