Saint Kateri Tekakwitha May 2016 News A Message from the Prin SPECIAL DATES: May 2—Young Actors Program begins for all grades It is hard to believe that there are only two months of school left in this school year. It has been a busy year at SKT and the calendars are bursting at their seams for the months of May and June. Upcoming events include: Class field trips, presentations, School Council Elections, SKT Day Celebration, Sacramental Celebration, Volunteer Appreciation, Achievement Tests, and Play Day. It is a busy stretch and we are hoping to see many families involved in these upcoming events. We always need your help! Please help your child to be successful at school by keeping regular bedtimes and continuing to encourage them to complete their homework assignments diligently. There is still much to be accomplished. A Provincial Achievement Test schedule is included on page 2 of this newsletter for the Grade 6 students and parents. You may also visit this link for more details: http://www.education.alberta.ca. These tests are very important in assisting staff in determining how well our students are meeting Alberta Education’s and Calgary Catholic School District’s curriculum expectations. Parents can assist by ensuring students receive adequate rest, eat nutritious foods – especially breakfast and arrive at school on time the days of the tests. Tests must be written on the day scheduled to ensure security, validity and reliability; however, students who are absent on the day of an exam will be permitted to write it the next day. Student Name Class Parent Signature 0 Grade Six Students Living in Abbeydale and Going to St Martha in September JH – SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY – REMOVAL OF DESIGNATION NOTICE Starting September 2016, the Junior High Science and Technology designations for CCSD schools, including St. Martha will be removed. Given that technology is integrated in all CSSD schools through Inspiring Education competencies and Career and Technology Foundations courses, the designation is no longer relevant. Engaging and challenging learning experiences, including those through science and technology, will continue to be the primary focus for our school community. This change means that only students who live within St. Martha attendance boundaries will be registered to attend St. Martha for Grade 7. Any students who live outside of the boundaries, will be expected to register at their designated Junior High. Due to limited space in our school, we are unable to accept students from outside of St. Martha attendance boundaries. For more detailed information, please visit our website or contact the school. We then invited our community to review and prioritize the thoughts of others by placing stars next to the ideas that were most important to them. Our goal was to get a sense of shared values and priorities from our schools and community. We’re excited to report that we had 10,267 individuals respond. Participants shared 18,106 thoughts and assigned 600,288 stars to their top priorities from across the district. Read the full story on our website under News.
