Creating compound sentences using Place matting

Room 3, Year 1
This term we focused on including conjunctions, adjectives and verbs to
create super sentences so our writing would be more engaging to the
reader.
As we learn about narrative structure, we were able to
explore further through role play. Here we had to role a die
and act out and explain the setting, either the good
character, bad character (Complication), prop and more to
entertain one another and follow the narrative structure.
Using a graphic
organiser to create
our narratives.
Measurement- Length, using formal and
informal units of measurement, students
enjoyed exploring the classroom, estimating
length, deciding on appropriate unit of
measurement and then measuring object.
Regrouping and finding 10 more, 10
less, 1 more and 1 less
Subtraction- Students had a random number of beads, one
partner takes away a chosen number beads and the other
partner has to use their knowledge and skills to find out how
many they took away and explain their answer through think
aloud.
So much fun had by all, the energy levels were amazing!
INCURSION- CLEAN AWAY
Learning how to recycle with Clean Away.
Great Incursion, students learnt through
hands-on activities what and how to recycle.
This term the students have been able
to have a go at all sports and skills
entailed with the lightning carnivalNetball, soccer, football and rugby. All
students will high engaged and always
willing to have a go!
This term the children learnt about
Gustav Klimt.
This term in Design and Technology we have
been using and discussing different materials
that can be used in stews. We have been
reading Wombat Stew as our inspiration
(wombats watch out!!!) We have had some
very interesting ideas about what we should
put in our own stews. Declan wanted to make
yummy lolly stew filled with lollies, lollypops
and watermelon, Harrison wanted to make a
stew with chicken skin, apples and icing and
George's marvellous stew had melted
chocolate, icing and ice-cream. I know which
one I would I be interested in trying!
The year 1's have tried vegetables that they
may not usually have such as beetroot, turnip
and sweet potato, some reactions were quite
humorous and some peoples tastebuds were
opened to a wonderful new flavour. In the last
week of term we look forward to making a
vegetable stew using all the delicious
vegetables we tried.
