We spent Sunday afternoon at St Mary’s Church rehearsing for the 18:30hrs service. Thank you to all of you who were in attendance and supported our students remembering the Passion of Our Lord. We raised £140 for CAFOD, thanks to donations after the liturgy. “Starts outside after Easter” Primary School Club Every Tuesday from 25 April 2017 15.45hrs ~17.00hrs Issue 103 6 April 2017 Lenten Term Week 6 College Prayers for the week Morning Prayer Evening Prayer Weekly Prayer Lord, teach me to be generous: to serve you as you deserve; to give and not to count the cost; to fight and not to heed the wounds; to toil and not to seek to rest; to labour and to ask for no reward save that of knowing I do your will. Amen May the Lord support us all the day long, till the shadows lengthen, and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then, in his mercy, may he give us a safe lodging, a holy rest, and peace at last. Amen God of plenty and of scarcity we pray for a world of more: more hunger, less starvation; more diversity, less difference; more power, less dominance; more prayer, less apathy; more riches, less wealth; more conversations, less words; more sharing, less dividing; more appreciation, more compassion, more love; O Lord, more love. Amen. ~~~~~~~~ Cardinal Griffin Cycling Club Every Wednesday from 26 April 2017 15.00hrs ~ 17.30hrs ~~~~~~~~ All are welcome Boys and Girls Bikes and Helmets are provided All of the above term time only MR SHENTON Tel: 01543 502215 ext. 232 Email: [email protected] Church Calendar Sunday 9 April 2017 Monday 10 April 2017 Tuesday 11 April 2017 Wednesday 12 April 2017 Thursday 13 April 2017 Friday 14 April 2017 Saturday 15 April 2017 Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord Monday of Holy Week Tuesday of Holy Week Wednesday of Holy week Maundy Thursday Good Friday Holy Saturday A Parental consent form will be required Our Parish Churches St Mary’s & St Thomas More Rev Fr Peter Weatherby http:// www.cannockcatholic.org 07766 335591 Our Lady of Lourdes Rev Fr Philip Newbold http://www.ourladyhednesford.com 01543 422576 St Joseph’s, Burntwood Rev Fr Paul Haines http://www.stjosburntwood.co.uk/ 01543 686266 St Joseph & St Etheldreda, Rugeley Rev Fr Peter Stonier http://www.rugeleycatholicchurch.co.uk/ 01889 802531 AmDg Lay Chaplain’s message THE GIFT OF THE CROSS In the ancient world the cross was a symbol of oppression, brutal punishment and abject humiliation. Jesus transformed this dark and despicable instrument of torture into a sign of God’s light, life, wisdom, mercy and love. The cross reveals God’s love for us. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Holy Week is a time to contemplate the gift of the Cross of Love and come into contact with the depths and heights of God’s love, mercy and forgiveness. We glorify and rejoice in the gift of the cross, the cross of love. I wish you all a safe and peaceful Easter break.
