CLYDE HOUSE CHRONICLES
July 2012
July was originally called Quintilis, the Latin for fifth, being the fifth
month of the old Roman calendar. It was renamed to honour Julius
Caesar who was born in that month.
July is the warmest month of the year and the start of Dog Days, days
of particularly hot and sultry weather, named after the belief they
were caused by Sirius the “Dog Star” being too close to the Sun.
