3rd Annual White VeloCross at Wintershines – Participant Guide An Event of the Saskatoon WinterShines Festival Date: January 28th, 2017 @ 2pm at the Riverlanding West (sign-on and pre-ride at 1pm) Event: Mashup of Cyclocross, BMX and MTN bike style racing on a short loop with various snow features 2:00PM High Fat Competitive Wave - tires over 3.5” in width, longer distance competitive 3:10PM Low Fat Citizen Wave - open to any bike, shorter less competitive event (depending on interest levels events maybe combined) Distance: High Fat Wave = ~40min (~5 laps assuming 6-7min lap of 1.52km circuit) Low Fat Wave= ~25 mins (2-3 laps depending on conditions) course may also be altered depending on conditions after High Fat Wave Cost: $20 Fatlanders FatTire Brigade Member, $25 Non member All participants must be an SCA member. Other features include some shaped turns, stair climb features (ride or run) an optional teeter-tooter, and snakes and ladders feature. Participants will be able to pre-ride the starting course at 1pm. Demo Track Paved trail Machine Groomed Ski trail Stair Climb TsingleTrack 3rd Annual White VeloCross at Wintershines – Participant Guide An Event of the Saskatoon WinterShines Festival IMPORTANT PARTICIPANT INFORMATION Participants must have bike with a tire of 3.5” or wider to participate in the White VeloCross High Fat wave. Only Fatbikes allowed on course during 1-2pm pre-ride If enough interest an open style wave may be added that would allow any style of bike to participate following the High Fat wave. Maybe a friend in the High Fat wave would be willing to lend you their bike . Course maybe altered for the open wave depending on the condition of course. Events maybe combined if registration numbers are not high enough to have two waves. Please be courteous to slower and faster riders – let slower riders know you are wanting to pass and allow faster riders room to pass where possible. If you need to run some sections try to run beside the track if it is soft so as to not punch boot holes in the track – running where it is hard packed is fine. Please walk/run or take the bypasses to any sections that you feel you are not comfortable riding. Track crosses and uses portions of the Meewasin Trail. The paved trails and park are not closed to the other users so be aware of any other trail users and avoid collisions and conflicts. We want to be able to continue to use the park to host events so please ride responsibly and safely at all times. All participants must be an SCA member for insurance purposes Washroom and warmup facilities available at Farmers Market. Sign-on may also be held inside at the Farmers Market if weather conditions are such that it is too cold for outside registration. This event is held in cold climates – please dress appropriately for the time and level of exertion you anticipate for completing the event and warm clothes for when you complete the event If temperature is below -20C with wind chills below -30C the event routes maybe shortened or altered or even cancelled. Excessive snowfall or warm weather may also lead to cancellation of portions of the event. Sign and Pre-ride at 1pm. Event starts at 2pm Helmets are mandatory. Support our Sponsors
