RECREATION INFORMATION EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT RECREATION AT… Summer 2014 w w w. c a m p t e j a s . o r g www.tejassmt.org The following recreation activities are offered by the Tejas recreation team. To discuss ideas for your session, please contact Jace Allen ([email protected]) MORNING ACTIVITIES Team Rotations Fill the morning with a plethora of rec games for your camper’s teams to rotate through. We offer and lead several fun and exciting games that are sure to get their hearts pumping early in the day! Each team will spend thirty minutes at each rotation in order to get the fullest experience at that particular game. Just bring the campers and we will take care of everything else! Here is a list of the games we have to offer: Alaskan/Eskimo Baseball The game starts with one team throwing the ball and huddling up as close together while one team mate runs as fast as he/she can around the entire team for points. Meanwhile the opposing team gets the ball and forms a line to pass it over and under to the last person in line who then throws the ball and huddles with his/her team up for points! Arena Ball All the balls are placed in the center of the arena. When the counselor begins the game it is a free for all to get a ball and knock the other players out while avoiding the balls of other players. The game ends when there is only one camper left. Water Balloon Volleyball Two teams work together to volley the ball to one another using only towels. If a team drops the volleyball or does not catch the volleyball coming to them in the towel then the opposing team gets a point. First to the designated amount of points wins! Bomber Ball Each team has a bucket in their corner. Defend your bucket from the other team’s incoming balls while at the same time trying to throw your team’s balls into the other buckets. Team with the least amount of balls in their bucket at the end of the game wins! Multiple rounds of this game can be played in a variety of ways. Cats in the Corner There are ball throwers in the center of the court and “cats” in the safety zones located in each corner. When the throwers give the signal, the cats try to run in any direction to a new corner without getting hit. Defend the Can Designated players in the center of the court will try and defend their can from a barrage of balls coming in from all sides. If one ball makes it into the can in the designated time then the throwers win! If no ball made it into the can then the defenders win! Flag Tag Each individual gets two flags on their waste. Be alert on all sides, because if both flags get pulled then you are out and must sit down, but you can still pull flags while sitting. Last person or team standing wins the round! Gaga Ball The increasingly popular game played in a specially designed arena where it is all versus all. Hit the ball with your fist and try to make it hit the other player’s legs while avoiding getting hit by the ball yourself. Last man standing claims the title of victor! Kajabi Can-Can Everyone stands in a circle connected by a small piece of rope in each hand. The goal of the game is to make the person next to you touch the trash can while avoiding it yourself. This game can get pretty intense so expect a few falls and laughs. Kickball The classic game that even your parents probably played in grade school! Similar to baseball, the player at bat gets the bouncy ball rolled to them and they kick it in any direction as hard as they want! They will then try to make it through all of the bases without getting tagged with the ball by the opposing team. The team with the most points at the end takes the cake! (Note: There is no cake) Knockout This popular game starts at the free throw line (or any other designated starting point) where all players line up and the first player shoots until he/she makes it into the hoop. Then he/she throws the ball to the player at the head of the line and goes to the end of the line. The next player in line shoots right away and tries to make it before the person ahead of them. If the player makes it before the first player then the first player is knocked out of the game. Continue this process until there is one person left. Nine Square in the Air A special arena has been created for this exciting game! Similar to the rules of four square a player will try and make their way from the first square all the way to the ninth king square and remain there. A player is out if the ball falls into their square and they are unable to hit it to another. Noodle Hockey A game of hockey played with noodles and a dodge ball! Each team tries to hit the ball into the opposing team’s goal using only their noodles. Goalies may block the ball however they want. First to the designated amount of points wins the game. Pass Tag Everyone is split into two teams. You must work with your team to tag out the opposing team members with the ball. You cannot move if you have the ball and if you drop it or it is intercepted by the other team then possession changes and now you must avoid getting tagged! SPUD All of the players are given a number and crowd around the counselor in the middle. The counselor will toss some dodge balls into the air and yell out a number. The players whose number is called will then get the balls while all of the other players scatter to avoid being hit by the balls. If a player is hit with a ball then they get a letter that will eventually spell out SPUD. The players with the least amount of letters in SPUD by the end of the game will be the winners. Steal the Beanbag It is campers versus counselor! Players will work together to steal the beanbag from the counselor without getting caught. If a player is caught moving he/she will return to the beginning. If the beanbag is found by the counselor after it has been stolen they everyone goes back to the beginning to try again. Tank Everyone partners up and has one partner blindfolded. The blindfolded partner is the tank and must be guided by the other team mate through the arena to find a beanbag and then toss it at the other tanks. Last team still in the game wins the battle! Team Ball This game has rules similar to kickball, but multiple people can be on a base at once and the whole team gets a chance to kick. Make a point by making it to all of the bases without getting tagged or hit by the ball. An inning is over as soon as the last person on the team kicks. Fill the bases to rack up high points and win the game! Three Ball Set up like the game of kickball except there are three people at bat each kicking or throwing a different type of ball as far as they can. Once all the balls are out the batters run as many bases as they can before the opposing team can return all three balls to the center can! Then the next batters are up to try the same thing. Every base that is hit counts as one point. Innings are timed, so move fast! Ultimate Frisbee/Ultimate Football/ Banana Rugby A very popular fast paced game that has teams working together to get the Frisbee from one end of the field into their respective end zones. Players may not move when they have the Frisbee but can pass it to any team member. The opposing team must try to steal the Frisbee or knock it out of the air to change possession. Use a Frisbee for Ultimate football, and a banana for banana rugby. Volleyball For that group who loves to just play the regular classic game of volleyball with no special rules or twists added. Teams volley the ball back and forth and try not to let the ball land in their court or hit it out of bounds. First to the designated amount of points wins the game! Team Relay Not your ordinary relay race-The entire teams must work together to get through a series of tasks; some tough some just plain bizarre. This activity is great for building unity and comradery amongst your teams while sparking that competitive drive to beat the other teams. Team relay is great for campers of all ages. Mud Pit Start your morning off right by jumping into the mud and participating in our mud games! The mud games will be hosted and led by the Tejas staff, just bring your campers and we’ve got the rest. Please make sure that the campers rinse off underneath the mud pit showers before returning to their bunks and using their own showers. The maximum number of campers able to participate in the mud games at one time is 250! Climbing & Zip Tower Want to give your campers some free time in the morning to enjoy spending time with each other, then go ahead and open our wall/zip. Tejas staff runs everything at the wall/zip and ensures the safety of every camper participating. THE CONQUEST-New! The Tejas staff will prepare for you and your group an adventure like no other involving mind and muscle! In this activity teams will travel all across camp to obtain clues that will guide them to their next challenge. The first team to finish the entire race or the team with the most finished challenges at the end of the predetermined time will be crowned Champions of CONQUEST! There will be challenges that involve the participation of the entire group and individual challenges where one participant will represent their team. Each challenge should last from five to ten minutes. Will your group have what it takes to endure the CONQUEST?
