Summer 2013 - Friends of Minute Man National Park

THE MINUTE MAN GAZETTE
SUMMER 2013
PROGRAMS UPDATE
Friends of Minute Man National Park’s mission is to preserve the birthplace of the
American Revolution and to inspire visitors to learn the causes, events and continuing impact of the War and its principles of Liberty and Democracy. To that end we
are focusing on two very important aspects of the American Revolution: Parker’s
Revenge and Patriots of Color.

We are working with a committee of local historians, the Lexington Minute Men,
and Park staff to investigate and restore the Parker’s Revenge site on the eastern
boundary of the Park.
We are also providing funding for a scholar in the Park to develop a teaching unit on
Patriots of Color, enslaved men and former enslaved men who served with distinction during the Revolution. The unit will be made available on the Park’s website.
We thank the generous donors who have contributed to these appeals.

PATRIOT’S DAY ACTIVITIES
A great group of friends joined us as we marched in the Concord Patriot’s
Day Parade. Our enthusiastic band of marchers proudly displayed their
love of our National Park.
Our annual Bucket Brigade was out among the visitors at the Battle Road
and Parker’s Revenge commemorations to collect donations for the
Friends.
Thank you to all our marchers, volunteers and donors.
FRIENDS RECEIVE A CAPACITY BUILDING GRANT FROM THE
NATIONAL PARK FOUNDATION
The Friends of Minute Man National Park recently concluded a year-long Park Partner Project funded by the
National Park Foundation (NPF). The Park Partners Project provided the services of NPF consultant
Siobhán O’Riordan to work with the Friends Board to enhance our organizational structure and fundraising
capabilities. We are confident that this year of planning and growth will enable us to provide more advocacy
and support for Minute Man National Historical Park.
