BOARD MEMBER BIO
Stephen Willis
Stephen Willis, a member of BP Group Leadership Team, was appointed President and
Chairman, BP Canada Energy Group ULC, effective June 1, 2014. Stephen was formerly SVP
Major Projects in Canada where he successfully led several significant business access and
project execution activities. Prior to this he held a number of key roles including
Performance Unit Leader in the UK North Sea, President and CEO of BP Qatar, and CFO of
BP Venezuela.
Stephen was born and raised in the North East of England and lived for many years in
Scotland. He joined BP as a production engineer in 1985 and has held a variety of
operational and business roles in Canada, Scotland, England, Venezuela and Qatar.
Stephen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Imperial College, a Master’s degree
in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College, and an MBA from Warwick University.
Stephen was formerly a member of the board of West Island College and currently supports
non-profit organizations including United Way and the BP A+ for energy environmental
program in Alberta schools.
Stephen lives in Calgary with his wife Claire and their three children Elsy, Harry and Sam.
He and his family enjoy the outdoors, including golf, skiing and cycling.
