KITTSON COUNTY FAIR PREMIUM LIST  PAGE 2
WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUCE THIS YEAR’S FAIR!!! We are going to continue to do online entries. If you don’t want to stand in line during entry days, please
either send or e-mail your entries to: [email protected] or mail your handwritten entries to Barb Peterson, 1006 2nd Street West, Lancaster, MN
56735.
There are several advantages to doing your entries this way. You will not have to wait in line as long when you bring your exhibits in and if you have your
entries and all required paperwork (Coggins test, etc.) postmarked by July 1, 2012, there will be no entry fees. Remember that everyone who enters an exhibit in
the fair is eligible for a ribbon. All Blue ribbon exhibits are automatically entered and eligible for Best of Show, Grand, and Reserve Champion Ribbons.
If you send your entries in early, your name will be printed on your tags and they will be ready for you when you arrive. You can still bring changes with
you on the day of the fair, but you will have to wait for these tags to be printed. There is no late entry for Division H - Horses.
We hope this process will make it easier for people to enter. Remember, there is NO ENTRY FEE for anything if it is entered by July 1, 2012.
If you normally enter in Classes J-M, and have to wait in line, advanced entries should eliminate this wait. Please take advantage of this. If you have questions,
call Barb at 218-762-6661 or Krystal at 218-762-3571.
RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR ALL LIVESTOCK – PLEASE CHECK EACH DIVISION FOR ENTRY TIME
Exhibitors must be residents of Kittson County or in the trade area of Kittson County. Exhibits must be made by the people or firms exhibiting them or in the
case of farm and garden products, must have been grown by them.
Divisions for the 2012 Kittson County Fair are made up as follows: Division A - Dairy Cattle; Division B - Beef Cattle; Division C - Sheep; Division D - Goats;
Division E - Swine; Division F - Chickens, Turkeys, Ducks, Geese, Pigeons; Division G - Rabbits; Division H - Horses/Donkey; Division I - Baby Barnyard; Division J Agriculture and Garden; Division k - Baking, Canning, Foods & Flowers; Division L - Creative Activities and Division M - Fine Arts, Decorative Arts and Photography.
While the greatest possible care will be executed by the management to protect patrons of the Kittson County Fair, each individual will be held personally
responsible for his or her actions and the management will not be accountable or responsible for any injury.
The Kittson County Agricultural Society management assumes no liability for loss or damage to any property to the concessionaire, exhibitor or patron, due
to the theft, fire, tornado, weather conditions or other causes.
The directors of the Kittson County Fair Board reserve the right to refuse any offensive or obscene exhibitors which in the judgment of the fair board
would be offensive to the general public.
The board of directors reserves the right to make any changes in the rules of the premium list they deem desirable. Arrangements have been made by the
management to pay all premiums in cash, Sunday afternoon, if possible.
The management will make every effort to pay the premium money as outlined in the list, but reserves the right to prorate premiums in the open classes.
If, due to conditions beyond the control of management, it becomes necessary to prorate premium money, it will be according to funds available.
The tacking or posting of any advertisements, bills, cards, etc., other than within the space occupied by exhibitors is strictly prohibited. Anyone violating
this rule will be liable to a fine or expulsion from the grounds, as the board may elect. In all divisions other than livestock, two entries cannot be made in the
same lot by any individual exhibitors or by different members of the same family.
Farm and garden products produced during the season of 2012, except threshed grains and canned goods, and to include 2011-2012 only.
In classes of purebred livestock, registration papers must be shown, if called for.
No animal may be removed from the fairgrounds until 5 p.m., on the last day of exhibition. Prior removal will result in loss in premium money.
Groups of livestock may be made up from other entries; however, one exhibitor will be permitted to show only one group or herd. A livestock exhibitor may
take only two premium awards in any one lot number.
Keep the aisles, pens and stalls clean.
Members will not enter pens to feed or clean.
Adult leaders and parents are expected to oversee club members.
All exhibitors are to supply their own straw, hay, and feed for livestock, including horses, exhibited.
Any exhibit of inferior quality may be barred from receiving a premium by the judges. Where there is no competition, it is left to the judges as to what
premium shall be awarded.
Make your entries early on the forms provided in this premium list. Feel free to make copies or just provide ALL the information on a blank sheet of paper.
In all livestock entries, give name and age. Livestock or poultry known by the exhibitor to have an infectious communicable disease or to have been exposed
to an infectious, communicable disease, or to be from a quarantined herd or flock may not be entered in an exhibition.
Warts and ringworm are considered communicable diseases. Therefore, livestock affected by these diseases cannot be exhibited. A statement from a
veterinarian that an animal is being treated for these diseases is not acceptable.
All livestock will be inspected by the official veterinarian on the opening day of the exhibition and daily during the exhibition. The official veterinarian will
order the immediate removal to a quarantine facility or removal from the exhibition premises of any livestock with symptoms of infectious or communicable
diseases. Animals placed in a quarantine facility must remain there until removed from the exhibition premises. They may not enter a show ring. This includes
livestock with warts or ringworm.
All testing must be conducted prior to the exhibition, and a record of the test results on a test chart or Intrastate Certificate of Veterinary Inspection
must accompany the tested animals. Livestock and poultry entered in a petting exhibit are not exempt from the exhibition rules if the animals are from more than
one farm or there are other animals at the exhibit.
No cattle will be allowed at the fair without the proper health certificates. All swine must be tested for pseudorabies one month prior to the county fair.
Hogs, dairy, and beef must have health certificates. Those desiring testing may have it done by contacting the county agent.
All exhibitors of bulls, one year or over, must lead such animals with a suitable staff attached to a nose ring.
All 2012 veterinary expenses are to be paid by the exhibitor.
All livestock must be in place by 7PM on Thursday, July 12, 2012.
EXHIBITION OF LIVESTOCK REQUIREMENTS
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Livestock and poultry that exhibit symptoms of any infectious or communicable disease, including ringworm and warts, may not be exhibited. All animals must
be examined by the official veterinarian on the day they are admitted to the exhibition and at least once daily during the exhibition. All imported animals must be
accompanied by a certificate of veterinary inspection and satisfy Board of Animal Health Importation Requirements.
KITTSON COUNTY FAIR PREMIUM LIST  PAGE 3
CATTLE - At this time, there are no state requirements for bovine tuberculosis (TB) testing. However, new intrastate movement requirements may be in effect
during the 2012 exhibition season for certain counties in northwest Minnesota. An updated version of this document will be distributed once specific information
on Minnesota intrastate movement requirements becomes available. For Minnesota State Fair tuberculosis testing requirements, call 651-288-4417 or visit
www.mnstatefair.org.
SHEEP & GOATS - All sheep and goats, including wethers, must be identified with official identification approved for use in the Scrapie Eradication Program.
SWINE - Swine must be individually identified and must: (1) have a negative official pseudorabies test conducted within 30 days prior to the opening date of the
exhibition; or (2) originate directly from a qualified pseudorabies-negative herd; or (3) originate directly from a Stage IV or V county or area. All 50 states are
currently pseudorabies Stage V (Pseudorabies Free Status).
HORSES - All horses must be negative to an official test for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) within 12 months prior to the opening date of the exhibition.
These tests need to accompany your pre-registration forms. A test is not required for suckling foals accompanying a negative dam.
POULTRY - Poultry, with the exception of pigeons and waterfowl, must be individually identified with a leg or wing band and accompanied by a form approved by
the Board to show compliance with one of the following: (1) negative test for pullorum-typhoid disease conducted within 90 days prior to the opening date of the
exhibition; or (2) originate directly from parent stock tested and found negative for pullorum-typhoid disease within the last 12 months. In addition, turkeys must
be tested negative or originate directly from parent stock that is tested negative for Salmonella typhimurium, Mycoplasma gallisepticum, and Mycoplasma synoviae.
DOGS - Dogs over six months of age must be accompanied by a certificate of rabies vaccination issued by a licensed veterinarian.
NOTE: SLAUGHTER CLASSES - All swine and poultry entered in this class, which are kept isolated in a separate building from all other livestock and poultry
at the exhibition and which are slaughtered during or immediately following the exhibition, do not require tests or individual identification.
