The overall country electrification rate is around 45%. In Nigeria, a majority of companies rely on diesel generators for their electricity supply. Of the total energy consumed by Nigerian industries only 4% is from grid-connected electricity. 96% is self-produced electricity. About 86% of the businesses in Nigeria own or share a generator. Estimates suggest that between 8 and 14 GW of decentralised diesel generator capacity is currently installed in the country. Here, solar and biomass energy can help to reduce dependency on fuel while improving companies’ profitability. The agri-food sector, especially the processing of rice, cassava, and palm oil, also has a great potential for bioenergy technologies. Cost of Participation Participation is free of charge but registration is required. Travel expenses are not covered by the RECP.
